Economic and Business Development Board
City of Coppell
The Economic and Business Development Board of the City of Coppell met
on Wednesday, August 2, 1989 at 7:30 p.m. in the Executive Conference
Room of the Town Center. The following boardmembers were present:

Item No. 1: Meeting Called To Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Richardson noting a quorum
was present.

Item No. 3: Presentation by Dr. Bill Stearman on Texas A&M Regional
Training Center
Dr. Bill Stearman gave a slide presentation on the Texas Engineering
Extension Service of Texas A&M. The proposed Coppell facility will be
approximately 330,000 square feet. The courses offered are primarily
for post graduate work and will not compete with local trade schools and
colleges.
The Texas A&M Extension Service is expected to bring economic
development to the City of Coppell. Funds must be raised by the end of
September. Currently acquired donations total $453,000.00.
A motion was made by Angelo Vaccaro to earmark up to $1,500 out of the
Economic Development Board budget for use by the North Texas Regional
Training Center Foundation for the purpose of obtaining personal and/or
corporate donations. Don Hodges seconded the motion and the motion
carried.
Item No. 4: Discussion and Consideration of Advertising in Regional
Marketing Magazine(s)
Discussion was held concerning advertising the City of Coppell in
regional marketing magazines. The Board decided this type of
advertising does not align well with our current objectives.

Item No. 5: Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce Report - Peggy Sham
Peggy Sham reported that the cost of the mailout program to all
commercial brokerage firms and developers in the Metroplex is
approximately $450.00.
Ms. Sham also suggested to the Board that considerable thought be given
this year to combining the Founders Day Celebration in conjunction with
the Coppell Bicycle Race.
Item No. 6: Chairman's Report
Chairman Richardson reported that the Economic Development Board 1989
budget is $5,600.00 which is equal to 1% of the total City Budget.
Funds are also available to the Economic Development Board from:
citizens water bill donations which to date total approximately
$3,000.00; and the Coppell Business Association Economic Development
fund of $3,500.00 allocated for Coppell Brochures.
Chairman Richardson advised that the Economic Development Board will
have three vacancies this term. Interested citizens are required to
submit applications by August 15, 1989.
There being no further business, a motion was made and seconded that the
meeting be adjourned.
