BM 1990-04-18 EcDevMinutes of the Economic and Business Development Board April 18, 1990 The Economic and Business Development Board met in regular session on Wednesday, April 18, 1990, at 7:30 p.m. in the Executive Conference Room of the Coppell Town Center. The following Board members were present: Lee Richardson, Chairman Regina Johnson Richard Johnson Angelo Vaccaro City staff members present were: Alan Ratliff, City Manager Item 1: Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Richardson, noting a quorum was present. Item 2: Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the March 14, 1990, and March 21., 1990, meetings were reviewed. Angelo Vaccaro made a motion that the minutes be approved. Richard Johnson seconded the motion. The motion carried and the minutes were approved. Item 3: Discussion and Consideration of PHH Fantus' Services: Board members received information provided by Councilman Tom Morton from PHH Fantus Corporation outlining services offered by their company to assist communities in marketing themselves to various industries. The Board decided the material did not pertain to Coppell's immediate needs but would be held for future information. Item 4: Discussion and consideration of reserving a booth at "Catch the Wave - Business Show and Conference," sponsored by the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce: After reviewing the information provided, the Board decided that the "Catch the Wave - Business Show and Conference" was geared more toward businesses' exposure rather than economic development. The Board expressed no interest in participating in the show. Minutes of the Economic and Business Development Board April 18, 1990 Page Two Item 5: Updating Information Made Available by the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce to Businesses Making Inquiries: Changes to the Metrocrest chamber of Commerce Information Sheet were made by Alan Ratliff and the Board members. Mr. Ratliff will follow up on returning the updated information to the Metrocrest Chamber. Item 6: Review and Discussion of Major Projects: Videg Production - Richard Johnson presented the Board with the final script for the new Coppell video. The Board discussed the possibility of using a portion of the funds available from the utility funds, as needed, to bring about the completion of the video. Expenses anticipated for completion include studio and production time, editing, music, a professional voice, etc. The Board recommended that Richard Johnson proceed with the finalization of the video production. City ego - Richard Johnson reported that approximately 45 logos have been reviewed, and both the designers and committee members have come to an agreement on the one logo they feel is most representative of the people of Coppell. Mr. Johnson stated that the graphic standards manual will show exactly how the new logo will be adopted for City use. Lee Richardson suggested that we give the logo to City Staff so they can begin estimating the total cost of incorporating the new logo on City vehicles, letterhead, etc., so that we can have a complete package for City Council presentation. Richard Johnson made a motion that the Board approve the spending of expenses, not to exceed $500, to research and file the proposed logo as a trademark. Angelo Vaccaro seconded the motion. All members voting in favor, the motion carried. Alan Ratliff will put the new logo presentation on the May 8 City Council agenda. M!gtrgcregtt - Members of the Board expressed no interest in participating in the trip to Toronto. Bicvcle Race - Angelo Vaccaro reported they still have not found sponsorship for the bicycle race. Goods in Transit - Alan Ratliff stated that the deadline for making a decision regarding Freeport Goods for the year 1991 is December 31, 1990. Minutes of the April 18, 1990 Economic and Business Development Board Page Three 24-Hogr City Hall Syste - Alan Ratliff reported that he will meet again with the Management Steering Committee for Computer Uses. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Chairman Richardson.
