BM 1995-10-04 EcDevMinutes of October 4, 1995 COPPELL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP Monthly Meeting The Coppell Economic Development Partnership met at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 1995, in the conference room at Rediform, 555 Airline Drive, Coppell, Texas 75019. The following members were present: Bronwyn Brock, Chairperson John Mark Bonnot Tim Brancheau Jim Dippold Isabelle Moro Mayor Tom Morton Ron Pankey Dixon Rich Bill Rohloff Candy Sheehan Gary Sieb Jim Witt 1. Call to Order Chairman Bronwyn Brock called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. 2. Introduction of Dixon Rich Mr. Dixon Rich, the City's newly appointed representative, was not present; therefore the Chairman, Bronwyn Brock, proceeded with the next item on the agenda. 3. Review the plans and progress for the Reception honoring area Brokers and Developers. Tim Brancheau gave a progress report regarding the upcoming reception to be held at Coppell Town Center on October 17, 1995 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Four hundred sixty four invitations were sent out. As of Wednesday, October 4th, forty people had replied they will be attending the event and 18 people declined. Mayor Tom Morton was asked to speak at the event. The City of Coppell's Engineering and Planning Department will have information booths set up during the reception. Also, various brokers and developers will have exhibits at the reception. During the course of the discussion, Chairperson Bronwyn Brock mentioned that it was her understanding the City would be hiring a Public Relations Consultant and that person would hopefully, be available to assist in the Partnership's media relations. 4. Review the plans and progress of the Direct Marketing Campaign. City of Coppell will begin to place a tombstone ad in the Dallas Business Journal whenever a new office or industrial user relocates to Coppell. The estimated cost of such an ad is $700.00. 5. Introduction of Dixon Rich, the City's newly appointed representative to the Partnership. Mr. Dixon Rich introduced himself to the Partnership. Mr. Rich has been a resident of Coppell for over a year and is presently working for J. Roberts Company, a real estate firm in Dallas. Prior to coming to Coppell, Mr. Rich lived in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also served on the Indianapolis Economic Development Board and looks forward to being an active member of the Partnership. After Mr. Rich's remarks, Bill Rohloff made a motion to re -appoint Ms. Bronwyn Brock as Chairperson of the Coppell Economic Development Partnership. Mr. Jim Dippold seconded the motion; motion carried (5-0) with Board members Dippold, Pankey, Rohloff, Rich, and Brock voting in favor. 6. Begin discussing plans of the presentation before the City Council in November on the Partnership's goals and objectives for fiscal year 1995-'96. Chairperson Bronwyn Brock announced that she will review the Partnership's goals and objectives for fiscal year 1995-96 at the November 1, 1995, Partnership meeting and would make a formal presentation before the City Council on Tuesday, November 14, 1995. 7. Briefing on the City of Coppell's nomination before the Texas Economic Development Council for the "Outstanding Community Economic Development Award". John Mark Bonnot reported that the City of Coppell was recognized at the Texas Economic Development Council luncheon as one of the contending cities for the award. City of Terrell won the Outstanding Community Economic Development Award. John Mark also discussed the upcoming North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors' "All Star Expo '95" to be held November 2, 1995 at the Infomart in Dallas between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Cost of a booth ranges from $350.00 to $500.00. He felt that it would be good for Coppell to participate at this function and it could serve as a follow-up to the Brokers and Developers' Reception. John Mark briefly discussed the possibility of Coppell having access and presence on the InterNet with a Home Page. He will be asking Wayne Richard of the Telecommunications Board and Bob Miller, the Information Service Manager at the City of Coppell to come to speak to the Partnership. Jim Witt, the City Manager, announced that one of the Park & Fly billboards along I- 635 would be available for the City's use. Some discussion followed. Chairperson Bronwyn Brock suggested soliciting Mr. Bill Herries' input for ideas for the billboard. 8. General discussion concerning economic development issues Mr. Gary Sieb made two announcements. The City currently is forming a committee to look at the existing sign ordinance with regards to monument signs. There has been some concern expressed by Council that the 75 sq. ft. maximum allowed by the existing ordinance may be too large. Mr. Sieb wanted Mr. Bonnot to help him solicit two members of the Chamber of Commerce to volunteer in this endeavor. The second announcement pertained to the Greater Dallas Chamber Industrial Real Estate Guide and if the partnership would be interested in placing an ad in this journal. A third of a page ad costs $800.00. Mr. Sieb also briefed the Partnership on the various commercial and industrial prospects looking to relocate to Coppell. Isabelle Moro made brief comments regarding two articles on Foreign Trade Zones and various tax incentives offered by cities in the North Texas region. With nothing further to discuss, the meeting adjourned at approximately 8:30 p.m.
