BM 2010-04-15 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting April 15, 2010 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on April 15, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Craig Pritzlaff, David Caviness, Charles Dart, Samuel Duff, Carole Gayler and Student Advisor Geetika Rao. City Liaison Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Kami Marcom, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present. Item 1: Call meeting to order  Craig Pritzlaff called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. Item 2: Consider approval of March 25, 2010, minutes  Charles Dart motioned to approve the minutes with the correction of the Parks and Recreation Secretary name changed to Kami Marcom. Item 3: Citizens’ Forum  No citizens were present. Item 4: Presentation from Pete Cotting from the Coppell Nature Park  Pete Cotting reported on the purpose and functions of the Coppell Nature Park.  Pete Cotting reported on an upcoming fundraiser to build a Butterfly Garden in the Coppell Nature Park. Item 5: Discussion and vote on June and July meeting dates  Committee approved to not meet in June or July. David Caviness motioned to approved followed by Carole Gayler. Motion approved. Item 6: Discussion and selection of Litter Index date th  Carole Gayler suggested that the committee meet 1 hour before the May 20 Keep Coppell Beautiful committee meeting. Motion approved. Item 7: Report and discussion from subcommittee activities.  Charles Dart reported on the top 5 priority items for Keep Coppell Beautiful to look into and other suggestions the committee had were available for review.  Carole asked about the measurement of air quality and if the city monitors this. She will further research municipality air quality control and report back. Item 8: Discussion of Earthfest activities and Board booth; and update on booths/vendors from Shannon Olmstead  Cristal reported that the committee will be working in shifts: 9:30-12:00 p.m. 12:00-2:30 p.m.  Cristal Rollins reported on Earthfest’s E-cycling, shredding, and an Arbor Day presentation from the Mayor. Item 9: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location program.  Cristal Rollins reported that Market Street has inquired about adopting a location and that the City will help clean those locations not adopted. Item 10: Discussion of Green Team program.  Cristal reported that Town Center Bank has joined the Green Team at a level 3.  There are now 21 organizations apart of the Green Team.  Cristal reported that the Green Team is putting together a ‘mixer’ including a 2 hour workshop called the Natural Step and looking at a Friday afternoon in June. Item 11: Youth report.  Geetika Rao reported that she will be conducting a presentation about deforestation at Coppell High School on Friday, April 30, 2010.  Geetika Rao also reported that recycling is going well at Coppell High School. Item 12: Community Programs Report 1) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate (DR). FEB. 10 MARCH 2010 2010 YTD 20.77% DR 20.95% DR 64% PR 69% PR 2) Coppell Community Garden Education – Spring Vegetable Gardening was Sunday – had 39 st attend. Upcoming classes: Creating a Backyard Habitat (Sat., May 1 @ 11:00) and Rain Barrels th (Sat., May 8 @ 9:00). 3) Coppell Farmers Market – 2010 Season opened on Saturday. 4) TXDOT Landscape Project – Freeport/635 project is close to completion. 5) Keep Texas Beautiful - KCB has been named as a Gold Star Affiliate with Keep Texas Beautiful again. thth 6) Upcoming Events – Earthfest (Saturday, April 24); Bounce! (Saturday, May 15 from 10:00 to 2:00 at Wagon Wheel Park) New Business to be placed on next meeting agenda: rd  Committee’s participation in the July 3 festivities.
