Minutes of Meeting
May 20, 2010
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on May 20, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Craig Pritzlaff, Shannon Olmstead, David Caviness, Charles Dart, Samuel Duff, Carole Gayler, Brandi Todd
and Student Advisors: Elizabeth Meyer and Geetika Rao and City Liaison: Cristal Rollins, Community
Programs Coordinator, were present.
Item 1: Call meeting to order.

Craig Pritzlaff called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Item 2: Consider approval of April 15, 2010 minutes.
?
Motion was made and carried to approve the April 15, 2010 minutes/
Item 3: Citizens’ Forum.
?
No citizens were present.
Item 4: Report and Discussion of Subcommittee Activities and Action Items.
?
The subcommittee had no new report.

Craig Pritzlaff has review the Waste Management contract and removing the phrase
“yard trimmings would require an amendment to the contract. He is still
reviewing the ordinance about parking lot requirements.
Item 5: Report and Discussion of Earthfest Activities.
?
Cristal Rollins reported that 10,805 pounds of electronics, 5,000 pounds of paper and
300 lbs of usable clothing and household items were collected during “Clean Up,
Fix Up” collection.

Cristal Rollins also reported that over 7,000 pounds of litter was collected during
Clean Coppell and over 1,300 volunteer hours were compiled by over 1,600
volunteers during Clean Coppell. Cristal will send a press release on Friday
(May 21) reporting the volunteer numbers.

Shannon Olmstead reported the results of the survey sent to all Earthfest vendors.
The feedback was overall good and there was a 50/50 split in preference of booth
locations. One vendor requested that the door prize winners’ information be
collected for follow-up by the vendor.

Item 6: Discussion and Vote of July 4 Parade Participation.

The Board voted not to participate in the 2010 4 of July parade.
Item 7: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program.
?
Cristal Rollins reported that there is one new group participating and their location is
at Sandy Lake from Denton Tap to Heartz.
?
The Board will follow-up with their groups over the next few weeks to make sure
they are completing and reporting cleanups.
Item 8: Discussion of Coppell Green Team.
?
Cristal Rollins reported that the Green Team will be sponsoring the “Three Steps to

Sustainability” workshop on Friday, June 18 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the

Senior Center. A media release will go out on Monday, May 24 and Cristal will
forward the registration form and a flyer to the Board.
Item 9: Youth Report.

Geetika Rao and Elizabeth Meyer reported on the Coppell High School Sustainability
Expo held on April 30th. There were 40-50 presenters, both adults and students
Item 10: Community Programs Report (written).
1) Recycling Carts –
“Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20%
Diversion Rate (DR).

2) Coppell Community Garden Education –
Recent offerings: “Creating a Backyard Habitat” and
“Make & Take Rain Barrels”. Will be having their “Ask a Gardener” offering at the CFM on
Saturday.
3) Coppell Farmers Market
– Customer Appreciation Day is Saturday.
4) TXDOT Landscape Project
– Freeport/635 project has been signed off on by the City and is
COMPLETE!

5) Upcoming Events
– 1) Spirit of Coppell Parade and Fireworks – Saturday, July 3. Parade –
10:00 a.m. (starts at St. Ann’s and finishes at Town Center) and Festivities – 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at
Andy Brown East. 2) Town Center Music Series – each Friday night in August, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
