BM 2010-09-16 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting September 16, 2010 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on September 16, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Samuel Duff, Craig Pritzlaff, Charles Dart and Shannon Olmstead. City Liaison: Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present. Item 1: Call to Order ? Craig Pritzlaff called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of August 19, 2010, Minutes ? Motion was made and carried to approve the August 19, 2010, minutes. Item 3: Citizens’ Forum. ? No citizens were present. Item 4: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program ? Cristal Rollins reported that Alford Media is taking over the Coppell Park Board spot, and the park board is moving to Starleaf near St. Joseph’s Village. We have 56 locations taken, and 4 remain available. Reminders have been sent out. ? The board voted for Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 8 a.m., as the next pick up date. November 20, 2010, at 8 a.m., will be the last pick up for the year. Item 5: Discussion of Green Team Program ? Cristal Rollins reported that we still have 22 participants. Item 6: Discussion of KCB Report to Council ? Shannon Olmstead will report to the Coppell City Council at the Tuesday, September 28, meeting with an update on working toward the Keep Coppell Beautiful mission of litter prevention, waste reduction, beautification and environmental sustainability. Sam Duff will be back up if Shannon is not available. Item 7: Discussion of October Youth Advisor Interviews ? Sam Duff and Craig Pritzlaff will conduct the youth advisor interviews on October 21, 5:30, before the regular KCB meeting. Item 8: Youth Report ? No youth present. Item 9: Community Programs Report (written) 1) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate (DR). MAY JUNE JULYAUGUST YTD 65% PR 63%PR 67% PR 66% PR 66% PR 17.56% DR 17.55%DR 17.37% DR 16.91% DR 18.65% DR 2) Coppell Farmers Market – Will be hosting “Fall Festival” special day with crafts, etc., on Saturday, October 30. Season closes on November 20. 3) CCG Education – Held “Composting 101” with Denton County Master Gardeners – September 11, 10:00 a.m., in Denton; Upcoming: “Fall Gardening 101 and Basics of Composting” – September 19, 1:00 p.m., at Grow It; “Tour of Texas SmartScapes” – September 25, 9:00 a.m.; “Perennials for the WaterWise Garden” – October 2, 1:00 p.m. Have had 741 contacts attend classes, ask a question at “Ask a Gardener” booths, etc., as of September 13, 2010. 4) Master Composter Seminar – Thursday, October 28, 6-9 pm, Friday, October 29, 6-9 pm and Saturday, October 30, 8 am–4 pm, $40 per person. Minimum registration is 8 people. If 8 have not registered by Monday, October 25, 4:00, class will be canceled and refunds given. 5) Upcoming Events – Wildflower Seeding – Saturday, October 16, 9:00 a.m., at Moore Road Park; Oakfest – Saturday, October 16, 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., at Andy Brown East; Earthfest 2011 – Saturday, April 30, 2011. 6) Boards & Commissions Swearing In – Tuesday, December 14 Council meeting, 7:30 pm.
