BM 2010-10-21 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting October 21, 2010 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on October 21, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Samuel Duff, Shannon Olmstead, Carol Gayler, and Brandi Todd. Student advisors: Geetika Rao and Elizabeth Meyer were present. City Liaison: Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present. Item 1: Call to Order ? Shannon Olmstead called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of September 16, 2010, Minutes ? Motion was made and carried to approve the September 16, 2010, minutes. Item 3: Citizens’ Forum. ? No citizens were present. Item 4: Coppell Community Garden Annual Report from Cindy Geppert, CCG Garden Chair ? Cindy Geppert, CCG Chair, and Trudy White, CCG President, presented an annual report on the three aspects of CCG: the two gardens, farmers’ market and education. Item 5: Consider Approval of 2010-11 Community Improvement Funds for Coppell Community Garden ? The $25,000 funding was approved by the board. Item 6: Discussion and Vote on December Meeting ? The December KCB meeting is canceled. Item 7: Discussion of Sub-committee Recommendations ? Sam Duff suggested that when the Waste Management contract is up for renewal (2014), we go to city council to remove two words from the contract regarding yard trimmings. Item 8: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program ? Cristal Rollins reported that there are four sites available, Southwestern Blvd. is open again, and there are no new groups. Also, requests for cleanup reports will go out on Monday. Item 9: Youth Report ? Geetika Rao reported that the Sierra Club at school wants to have an Adopt-a- Location site and a plot at the community garden. Also, the recycling club is going to collect plastic bottles and cans at school. ? Elizabeth Meyer reported that she changed the settings on 30 computers at school to shut down faster. Item 10: Discussion and Consider Approval of Youth Advisor Candidates ? Sam Duff and Brandi Todd interviewed four candidates: Geetika Rao, Goutham Kandru, Vinathi Polamraju and Khadijan Adenwala and approved them in that order. Item 11: Community Programs Report (written) nd 1) KAB National Awards – KCB was awarded 2Place in the KAB National Awards in the Affiliate category (population category – 50,000 and under)! 2) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate (PR) and 20% Diversion Rate (DR). Season closes on November 20. 5) CCG Education – Upcoming: “Ask a Gardener” at the CFM on Saturday, October 30. Rain Barrels on Saturday, November 13. This will be the final class of 2010. 6) Master Composter Seminar – Thursday, October 28 (6-9 pm), Friday October 29 (6- 9 pm) and Saturday, October 30 (8 am–4 pm). 7) Upcoming Events – E-Cycling – Saturday, November 13 – 9:00 to noon at Town Center. Holiday Parade and Celebration – Saturday, December 4 – parade: 6:30, celebration: 7-ish at Town Center Plaza. Earthfest 2011 – Saturday, April 30, 2011. 8) Boards & Commissions Swearing In – Tuesday, December 14 Council meeting (7:30 pm). New Business to be placed on next meeting’s agenda ?
