Minutes of Meeting
February 17, 2011
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on February 17, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at
the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were
present: Shannon Wentz, David Caviness, Brandi Todd, Eric Dillie, Terra Taylor, and Tabitha Wilson.
Student advisors, Goutham Kandru, and Geetika Rao were present. City Liaison: Cristal Rollins, Community
Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present.
Item 1: Call to Order
Brandi Todd, Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for January 20, 2011
Motion was made and carried to approve the January 20, 2011, minutes.
Item 3: Citizens’ Forum.
No citizens were present.
Item 4: Discussion of Board Priorities for 2011
A. Diversion and participation rate for residential recycling
B. One-day classes for outreach on sustainable/green programs with businesses
hosting and providing instructors
C. More native trees in Coppell by collecting seedlings and planting
D. Increase support of associated programs, such as Coppell Farmers Market
E. Increase schools’ involvement in recycling
F. Eco Coppell – provide project ideas
G. Educate and promote environmental issues with residents
H. Develop participation and diversion goals for residential program
I. Green Team
J. Youth advisor activities involvement
K. Waste contract recommendations
L. Internal KCB sustainability
M. Earthfest
N. Adopt-a-Location improvements
The board decided to make Earthfest the first priority and then rank the top five
priorities. David Caviness will create a survey with the results.
Item 5: Discussion of Board Members’ Skills and Personal Associations Available to
Support KCB Activities
Board members offered their skills and support systems: Google Surveys,
photography, marketing, public speaking, writing, and associations with schools and
scouts.
Item 6: Discussion of Formation of Subcommittees
The formation of subcommittees was tabled until the next meeting with the exception
of the subcommittee for Earthfest, which is Saturday, April 30.
Subcommittee: David Caviness, Terra Taylor, Goutham Kandru, and Geetika Rao.
Geetika Rao and Goutham Kandru will plan the KCB booth.
Item 7: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location
Cristal Rollins reported she has heard from all but two groups on renewing their
contracts and will advertise locations available. There are two new groups: seniors
cleaning around the senior center entrance and a family with a location on MacArthur
Blvd. Sixty locations are adopted at this time.
Item 8: Discussion of Green Team
Cristal Rollins reported there are 24 businesses signed up.
Tabitha Wilson will attend the meetings at the Chamber of Commerce.
Item 9: Discussion of Clean Coppell and Earthfest
Cristal Rollins explained the event to the new board members: Clean Coppell takes
place two weeks before Earthfest, April 16-30. At Earthfest on April 30, citizens will
recycle household items, clothes, electronics, shred papers, visit the many vendor
booths, listen to the “Vocal Trash” band and register for door prizes.
Item 10: Community Programs Report
1) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate (PR)
and 20% Diversion Rate (DR)

2) Coppell Farmers Market – Winter Market dates: 2nd and 4th Saturdays in January,
February and March. Currently working on launching their own website (have shared
with CCG before).
3) Coppell Community Garden (CCG) – Adopt-a-Plot signup – Sunday, Feb. 13.
4) CCG Education – 38 people attended “Care & Pruning of Roses” class, weather-
related cancellation of “Growing Vegetables from Seed” on Feb. 5. Upcoming
classes: “Perennials for the WaterWise Garden” – Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10:00 a.m.,
“Spring Gardening” – Sunday, March 27, at 1:00 p.m.
5) Upcoming Events – EGGstravaganza (Egg Hunt) – Saturday, April 23, 11:00
a.m., at Wagon Wheel Park (arrive early!!!!); Earthfest – Saturday, April 30, 10:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m., at Town Center Plaza; Bounce! – Saturday, May 14, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m., at Wagon Wheel Park.
New Business to be placed on next meeting’s agenda
Brandi Todd will give KCB report to City Council, 4th Tuesday of March
