BM 2011 04-04 LBWILLIAM T. COZBY PUBLIC LIBRARY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES April 4, 2011 The William T. Cozby Public Library Board met in regular session on Monday April 4, 2011 at the Senior and Community Center, 345 W. Bethel Road, Coppell, TX. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Thomas Dwyer at 7:40 p.m., immediately following the joint work session with the Coppell City Council and the Parks Board. Other board members present were Wednesday Foster, Jennifer Johnson, Karla Tabor, David Smith, Patricia Nicks, Stephen Charters and Saul Friedman. Youth Advisors Nadir Khan and Sai Panguluri were also present. Staff in attendance were Library Director, Victoria Chiavetta, Assistant Library Director, Jane Darling and Sr. Administrative Technician, Ramona Woods. 2, APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MARCH 10, 2011 BOARD MEETING: David Smith moved to approve the minutes of March 10, 2011. Jennifer Johnson seconded the motion. All were in favor. Minutes were approved. 3. CITZENS APPEARANCES: None. 4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR' S REPORT: • Workload Indicators: Circulation continues to trend downward with the biggest decrease showing in DVDs. Book circulation increased slightly in March as did patron visits. Reference questions were on the rise, most likely due to patrons asking for assistance with the new catalog. With the new catalog, some statistics are reported differently. For example, when counting use of the catalog, Polaris can report on page views and visits. As we learn what we can track, we will be revising our report. • Programs: Vicki invited board members to attend the Bluebonnet Night Program on April 19�' at 6:30 p.m. The Coppell Writers Group will have their first meeting April 21" at 6:30 p.m. • Building and Facilities: Repairs have begun on the east wall of the library where flooding damaged the building last fall. The study room will be re -wallpapered and the quiet reading room will be patched and repainted. In addition, some drainage work has been done in low lying areas. Parks has been doing some nice landscape clean up this spring too. They removed some shrubs at the entry of the drive and cleaned up the ground covers around the building. 5. DISCUSSION OF JOINT COUNCIL WORK SESSION: Discussion ensued regarding issues discussed at the joint council work session. The library board will develop a priority list for library services. 6. TEXAS STATE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES COMMISSION ANNUAL REPORT: A copy of the FY09110 annual report was distributed. Discussion ensued. Vicki will supply additional statistics to the Board. (Attachment A) 7. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: The youth advisors brought up the issue of noise in the library and inquired about the possibility of a designated area for tutors. Discussion ensued. 8. FY 10111 LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Patricia reported on communication with Farmer's Market and will schedule two Saturdays for the Board to participate. Board members who are interested will attend a catalog training session at the library. 9.
