Minutes of Meeting
September 15, 2011
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on September 15, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference
Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following
members were present: Brandi Todd, Shawn Thompson, Richard Kelley, Tabitha Wilson, Samuel
Duff, David Caviness, City Liaison: Lorrie Reeves, Community Programs Coordinator, and Nikki
Moore, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present.
Item 1: Call to Order
Brandi Todd called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for August 18, 2011
Motion was made and carried to approve the August 18, 2011 minutes.
Item 3: Citizens’ Forum
No citizens were present.
Item 4: Introduction of New Keep Coppell Beautiful Board Members
Lorrie Reeves, new Community Programs Coordinator, introduced herself
and gave a report on her career background.
Item 5: Discussion of KCB Semi-Annual report to City Council
City Council meets on September 27, 2011. Lorrie Reeves is currently
working on the report which will include the community programs report,
awards and new priorities. As soon as it is complete, she will email a copy to
all KCB board members.
Brandi Todd recommended a power point presentation, if allowed, to get the
council members attention.
Item 6: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location
Lorrie Reeves gave each member an updated report on cleaning activities in
their assigned area.
Board discussed gaining compliance of four clean-ups per year specifically
from those adopters whose locations stay clean because of business
occupation.
Item 7: Discussion of Green Team and Chamber of Commerce Involvement
Brandi Todd reiterated that Tony Moline, new President of the Chamber of
Commerce, expressed interest in revamping the Green Team program with
the KCB Board.
Board discussed the need to make program more appealing by simplifying
the brochure and offering free education opportunities to businesses who
participate such as “How to Water Effectively for Texas Landscapes/Soil.”
Shawn Thompson volunteered to be the KCB liaison to the Chamber of
Commerce.
Item 8: Youth Report
Brandi Todd presented “The Green Santa” project in detail and demonstrated
how each board member can get involved. Suggestions were:
Tasks:
Book Donations
Schedule Schools, Daycares, Libraries
Schedule Volunteer Readers
Costumes, décor
Logistics
Publicity, advertisement
Budget
Project Goals:
Get ALL KCB Board members engaged and excited about activities to foster
future interests
Increase school participation in recycling and environmental clubs
Establish relationships with teachers interested in forming environmental
clubs
Book Donations (cost should include $ for other budgeted items)
Schedule Schools:
Use Amanda’s contact list at Coppell Schools
Costumes:
Should be ‘cool’ for High School Students (they should design)
Mostly reusable for next year
Small item for them to keep (ie: hat)
Let volunteers decorate costumes
Painted overalls, Santa hats, decorated shoes, t-shirts,

Item 9: Consider Approval of a Youth Advisory Interview Panel on October 20,
2011
Richard Kelley and Brandi Todd will interview prospective youth advisors at
6:00 p.m. on October 20, 2011.
Item 10: Formation of Subcommittee for KCB Priority Goals
Brandi Todd reported that Eric Dillie would like to head up the
Subcommittee for KCB Priority Goals.
Motion: Brandi Todd moved to approve Eric Dillie, Goutham Kandru and
Geetika Rao as the Subcommittee members for KCB Priority Goals. Richard
Kelley seconded the motion. Motion passed with six approvals and zero
opposed.
Item 11: Community Programs Report
1) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count”
Goals are 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate (DR)

2) Coppell Farmers Market – Acceptance of Lone Star/ EBT cards and bank
debit cards began on 8/20/11. Transactions have been averaging around 4 per
market for $120 total/market. The market will move to the transition site the first
part of Oct. The CFM will make a report to City Council on the same night as KCB
(Sept 27th). Share the Harvest pounds to date: 6153 donated to Metrocrest
3) CCG Education – Tour of Texas SmartScapes on September 24th at 9am to
noon. Development is moving forward for the Organic Gardening Series starting
this fall. Classes include soil building, composting, vegetable gardening, water
conservation, etc. Schedule for these classes will be ready for distribution at the
Texas SmartScape Tour.
4) Upcoming Events –
Oct 1 - Fall Festival in Old Town Coppell 8 – Noon.
Oct 8 - SLOW gardening with Felder Rushing.
October 15 - Wildflower Seeding will be held at 9am and Oak Fest will start at 5pm,
Oct 20 thru Oct 22, ecoCoppell Corps training will begin.
Oct. 22 Kids Food Day at the CFM
5) Awards – A panel of national judges has chosen the City of Coppell to receive
the 2011 Cis Myers Outstanding Sustainability Program Award. The award will be
presented at the Annual Recycling & Sustainability Summit on Tuesday, October 4th.
Lorrie Reeves will be at the conference and will accept the award.

Overview of KCB Semi-Annual Report given to Coppell City Council.
