Minutes of Meeting
August 18, 2011
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on August 18, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference
Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following
members were present: Shawn Thompson, Eric Dillie, Richard Kelley, Tabitha Wilson, Samuel
Duff, David Caviness, Geetika Rao, and Goutham Kandru, City Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier,
Community Programs Supervisor, and Nikki Moore, Parks and Recreation Administrative
Technician, were present.
Item 1: Call to Order
David Caviness called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for May 19, 2011
Motion was made and carried to approve the May 19, 2011 minutes.
Item 3: Citizens’ Forum
No citizens were present.
Item 4: Introduction of New Keep Coppell Beautiful Board Members
David Caviness introduced Shawn Thompson and Richard Kelley. Each new
member gave a brief report on how long they have lived in Coppell, what
they do for a living, and why they wanted to be on the board.
Item 5: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location
David Caviness gave each board member their respective Adopt-a-Location
groups/sites that they are responsible for following up with and encouraging
to do their clean-ups.
Tabitha Wilson volunteered to coordinate the Keep Coppell Beautiful
location clean-ups.
The Keep Coppell Beautiful board members decided to meet on location for
clean-up on September 10, 2011 at 8:00 a.m.
Item 6: Discussion of Green Team and Chamber of Commerce Involvement
Amanda Vanhoozier reported that Tony Moline, new President of the
Chamber of Commerce, expressed interest in revamping the Green Team
with the KCB Board.
Board discussed having Tony Moline come speak at a Keep Coppell
Beautiful Meeting in the near future.
Item 7: Youth Report
Geetika Rao introduced project “The Green Santa.” It is based on a
children’s book that is used to teach young children eco-friendly concepts.
The goal is to have high school or junior high students in the community read
the book to children in pre-school or elementary. North Middle School has
already teamed up with Primrose to participate in this project.
Item 8: Formation of Subcommittee for KCB Priority Goals
David Caviness reiterated the priority goals as follows:
- Diversion and participation rate for residential recycling
- Increase schools’ involvement in recycling
- Green Team
- Youth advisor activities involvement
Item 9: Community Programs Report
1) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation

2) Coppell Farmers Market – Customer Count on July 23rd was 1300
people. Acceptance of Lone Star/ EBT cards and bank debit cards
beginning 8/20/11.
3) CCG Education – Tour of Texas SmartScapes on September 24th at 9am
to noon Starting a Organic Gardening Series this fall with monthly classes on
soil building, composting, vegetable gardening, water conservation, etc.
4) Upcoming Events – Music Series in the Plaza on Friday nights in
August. EcoCoppell Corps starting Oct. 20-22.
5) KCB was awarded 2nd Place in the 2011 Governor’s Community
Achievement Award at the Keep Texas Beautiful conference in Austin in
June.
