BM 2011-10-20 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting October 20, 2011  The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on October 20, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Brandi Todd, Shawn Thompson, Eric Dillie, Tabitha Wilson, Samuel Duff, Geetika Rao, Goutham Kandru, and City Liaison: Lorrie Reeves, Community Programs Coordinator. Item 1: Call to Order Brandi Todd called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for September 15, 2011 Motion was made and carried to approve the September 15, 2011 minutes. Item 3: Citizens’ Forum No citizens were present. Item 4: Report from Coppell Community Garden representative Trudy White, President and Diane Lowe, Vice President delivered their latest report from Coppell Community Garden Committee. Websites for CCG and CFM are new this year. Discussed Coppell Farmers Market: new location and need for a dairy producer. Item 5: Consider approval of 2011-2012 Community Improvement Funds for CCG Motion was made and carried to approve the 2011-2012 Community Improvement Funds for CCG. Discussed projected budget and that the City of Coppell is not for profit. Item 6: Discussion and consider approval of Youth Advisor candidates Only two youth interviewed and the committee was very impressed with both applicants. They both had great ideas for projects and to improve recycling around the city. Shawn Thompson suggested the Coppell middle schools band together to form one Eco-Club. Item 7: Discussion and vote on December meeting Motion was made and carried to approve the cancellation of the December meeting. Traditionally, the board has not met in December. Item 8: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location program Board discussed the increase of activity from Adopt-a-Location groups to finish out the year and get their four clean ups for the year due to fairer weather. City Liaison, Lorrie Reeves is going to re-vamp the Adopt-a-Location completion forms in order to make them more user friendly. She will also email all groups to remind them to get their clean ups in for the year. Item 9: Discussion of Green Team program Lorrie Reeves reported that there is no new business in regards to the Green Team program. A meeting with the Chamber of Commerce is tentatively scheduled for th Friday, October 28. Shawn Thompson will call Chamber of Commerce to schedule and will inform other board members of outcome. Item 10: Youth Report Geetika Rao reported on The Green Santa Project and outlined a plan to accomplish the project. Focus on four schools, grades Kindergarten through third, and 2 books per school. Geetika Rao and Goutham Kandru will gather volunteers from the high school. Eric Dillie will coordinate with the teachers to work around class schedules and holiday parties. Board is still looking for donations from businesses. Shawn Thompson will solicit for donations. He needs flyer to leave behind with business for donation request. The need is for ten books, green Santa hats for volunteers, and a “small give away” for the kids. Item 11: Community Programs Report 1)Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” Goals are 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate (DR) JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER 2011 YTD 70% PR 60% PR Data Not Avail 65% PR 18.72% DR 20.55% DR Data Not Avail 19.63% DR 2) Coppell Farmers Market – The Farmers Market successfully relocated to 793 S. Coppell Road (the corner of Burns and S. Coppell Road) and opened for business in that new th location on Saturday, October 15. Business was brisk and the vendors were happy with the turnout. Food Day for Kids will be held on October 22nd, promoting healthy food for healthy families. The event will focus on teaching children to make their own healthy food choices, kids will receive a reusable MyPlate placemat to help them make balanced food choices at the market and at home. Share the Harvest pounds to date: 7,647 donated to Metrocrest. th 3) CCG Education – was a great success with Tour of Texas SmartScapes on September 24 approximately 150 participants. A brochure with upcoming education classes was developed and distributed at this event. The next class will be at Grow It Land Designs th on November 5 on Composting Basics. The Harvest Dinner was a great success with over 100 attendees. Felder Rushing was well received as the evening’s keynote speaker on easy gardening practices. 4) Upcoming Events – Oct 20 thru Oct 22, ecoCoppell Corps training has been cancelled due to low registration. Oct. 22 Kids Food Day at the CFM November 5, Composting 101 at Grow It Land Designs November 12, Used Electronics Collection (Last one, going to pick up service with WM) November 12, The Good Soil at Helping Hands Garden November 12, Make and Take Rain Barrel Class New Business to be placed on next meeting’s agenda Green Santa Update Chamber of Commerce Update Report on Gas Drilling Task Force meeting with City of Dallas.
