BM 2011-11-17 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting November 17, 2011  The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on November 17, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Brandi Todd, David Caviness, Richard Kelley, Eric Dillie, Tabitha Wilson, Samuel Duff, Geetika Rao, Goutham Kandru, and City Liaison: Lorrie Reeves, Community Programs Coordinator. Item 1: Call to Order Brandi Todd called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for October 20, 2011 Motion was made and carried to approve the October 20, 2011 minutes. Item 3: Citizens’ Forum No citizens were present. Item 4: Discussion of Holiday Parade The Board discussed how they would like to participate in the parade and decided on acting as volunteers for the Parks Department. Motion was made and carried to approve to send board members as volunteers to the 2011 Holiday Parade. Item 5: Discussion of Green Team Program Tabitha Wilson, Shawn Thompson and Lorrie Reeves met with Tony Moline to discuss the Green Team and makes the recommendation of doing away with the levels the local businesses can earn. If needed, Tabitha Wilson volunteered to make new brochures and graphics. Tabitha Wilson and Brandi Todd would like to have a presentation on Green Team at the next January meeting. In order to increase participation suggestions were made: Samuel Duff suggested lowering the cost of participation. Lorrie Reeves suggested that the board offer something tangible for business as an incentive. Goutham Kandru suggested that by removing the levels of accreditation would that lower paper work and entice more businesses. Tabitha Wilson suggested that by giving businesses something to help the business market; it would make the program more enticing. Samuel Duff suggested hosting a mixer with other City Chambers and Green Team Businesses to network. Item 6: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program Lorrie Reeves reported AAL Charts are up to date and Lorrie will send out letters to get participants to renew their contracts on locations. Lorrie Reeves also suggests that the program change to an easier reporting procedure like sending the “Clean-Up Report” via e-mail to Lorrie instead of paper forms. Richard Kelley reported that Ronald Curran wants a sign at Wagon Wheel Park for his company group.. Board decided to do another Clean-up at their location on December 3, 2011 before and after the Holiday Parade. Tabitha Wilson will pick up supplies on Friday, December 2, 2011. Item 7: Discussion of Green Santa Program Town Center Elementary confirmed on December 14, 2011 at 2:30 Primrose confirmed but no date as of yet. Goutham Kandru will contact Cottonwood Creek Elementary. Geetika Rao will contact Denton Creek Elementary. Geetika Rao reported that she has plenty of confirmed high school volunteers. Board discussed supply options and supply costs. The Board recommends buying the nice green Santa hats and reuse them year after year. Amazon has the best Green Santa book price at $8.68. Purchase 10. Give green paper bracelets to children as a favor instead of green candy canes. Principals of each school needs to read the Green Santa book and approve the book due to the fact that it mentions “Christmas” and “Global-Warming.” Item 8: Youth Report and Feedback Goutham Kandru reported that he liked the atmosphere and good communication. The sub-committee helped him stay involved and to contribute. He learned about parliamentary procedure but could have used more of a lesson. Geetika Rao reported that Keep Coppell Beautiful was her favorite board experience. She loved working Earthfest and the Green Santa Project. She liked the events and friendly members. The rotation of members mid-year caused disconnect in getting to know new board members. Item 9: Community Programs Report 1.Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” Goals are 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate (DR) AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER 2011 YTD 60% PR 62% PR 57% PR 64% PR 20.55% DR 20.39% DR 20.49% DR 18.8% DR 2.Coppell Farmers Market – Food Day for Kids was a smashing success. All 500 “MyPlate” placemats illustrating balanced food choices were distributed to youth attending the event. The regular season ends on Saturday, November 19th. Winter ndththnd Market dates are 2 and 4 Saturdays January – March. : December 11 and 2 and th 4 Saturdays in January, February and March. Share the Harvest pounds to date: 9,305 donated to Metrocrest 3.CCG Education – . The Compost 101 class, the Good Soil class the Make and Take Rain Barrel class were well attended with positive feedback. These were the last classes scheduled for this year. The Education Committee has met with the Senior Center manager to discuss specific programming for seniors. 4.Electronics Collection Event – 150 vehicles drove through to drop off unwanted electronics. Waiting on weight from GEEP. This is the last collection event as the city has contracted with Waste Management to collect electronics and household chemicals to provide “at your door” pick up service for these items 5. Upcoming Events – Holiday Parade and Celebration – Saturday, December 3rd – parade: 6:30, celebration: 7-ish at Town Center Plaza. Earthfest 2012 – Saturday, April 28, 2012 th 6. Boards & Commissions Swearing In – Tuesday, December 13. There will be a reception from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Swearing in of new board members will take place during the Council meeting at 7:30 pm.
