BM 2012-01-19 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting January 19, 2012  The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on January 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Brandi Todd, Eric Dillie, Laura Burnett, Noel Schaefers, Richard Kelley, Shawn Thompson, Tabitha Wilson, Carmen Prince, Vin Merrill, Annie Friedman, Pooja Marella and City Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier. Item 1: Call to Order/Welcome to KCB/Introductions Amanda Vanhoozier called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. Members, alternates, and youth advisors introduced themselves and said why they wanted to be involved in Keep Coppell Beautiful. Item 2: Discussion and consider approval of 2012 KCB Chair and Vice Chair. Motion was made and carried to approve Brandi Todd and Shawn Thompson as the 2012 KCB Chair and Vice Chair, respectively. Item 3: Consider Approval of Minutes for November 17, 2011 Motion was made and carried to approve the November 17, 2011 minutes. Item 4: Citizens’ Forum Jeff Varnell and Beth Reynolds, citizens of Coppell, introduced themselves and observed how Keep Coppell Beautiful Board operated. Item 5: Discussion of Green Santa Program Brandi Todd gave an overview of the Green Santa Program for new members. Eric Dillie reported that the readings at Primrose School were appreciated by the teachers. Citizen Beth Reynolds reported that the teachers at Town Center Elementary built upon the program and had children write pledges of how they can recycle. Item 6: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program and Litter Index Brandi Todd gave an overview of how the Adopt-a-Location program works and what the board members responsibilities are. The board decided to move their Adopt-a-Location from Beltline to Hunterwood Park in order to accommodate members under the age of fifteen to be able to participate in clean-ups. The board will schedule a clean-up of their location at the February meeting. Amanda Vanhoozier discussed the litter index and how it is reported to Keep Texas Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful and Trinity River Environmental Educators Society Trash Bash Report. The litter index needs to be completed by a few members of the board before the end of April and will be scheduled at the February meeting. Item 7: Discussion of the Coppell Green Team Brandi Todd gave a brief overview of the Coppell Green Team as it stands now. Tabitha Wilson and Shawn Thompson act as the boards liaisons to the Chamber and have a meeting set up with Tony Moline on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Item 8: Discussion of ecoCoppell Earthfest-April 28 Amanda Vanhoozier gave background information on ecoCoppell Earthfest. It is scheduled to take place April 28, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Town Center Plaza. Amanda Vanhoozier asked the board to sponsor a booth and gather other educational vendors for the event. A sub-committee of Richard Kelley, Laura Burnett, Pooja Marella, Annie Friedman, Vin Merrill, and Carmen Prince was put together for ecoCoppell Earthfest 2012. Item 9: Discussion and consider approval of March meeting date Motion was made and carried to approve the move of the March 15, 2012  meeting to March 22, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.Conference Room, Coppell Road Service Center, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Item 10: Community Programs Report 1) Recycling Carts – “Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate (DR). OCT NOV DEC 2011 YEAR END 57% PR 63% PR 66% PR 64% PR 20.49% DR 20.07%DR 18.83% DR 19.06% DR 2) Welcome Packets – The City of Coppell is personally delivering welcome packets to new residents in Coppell. Information about recycling opportunities and Keep Coppell Beautiful is included in the packets. 3) Coppell Farmers Market – Winter Market dates: 2nd and 4th Saturdays in January, February and March. Open every Saturday starting April 7th. 4) Coppell Community Garden (CCG) – Adopt-a-Plot signup is Saturday, February 4th. There will be a waiting list started for the few plots that will not be adopted. Share the Harvest in 2010 totaled more than 11,000 pounds. 4) CCG Education – The Basics of Organic Gardening Series will continue into the spring. The Sustainable Urban Ecosystem workshops will also be hosted at the Coppell Community Garden on Feb. 25 and 26th. 5) Youth Presentations – Green Santa was read at three schools, recycling presentation was made to a Boy Scout Troop, and energy presentation was made to a Girl Scout Troop. New Business to be placed on next meeting’s agenda Synopsis of activities that KCB sponsors throughout the year. Discussion of newspaper trash in neighborhoods from unwanted publications.
