BM 2012-02-16 KCBKeep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting February 16, 2012 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on February 16, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Brandi Todd, Eric Dillie, Laura Burnett, Noel Schaefers, Richard Kelley, Shawn Thompson, Tabitha Wilson, Carmen Prince, Vin Merrill, Annie Friedman, Pooja Marella and City Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier. Item 1: Call to Order  Brandi Todd called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for January 19, 2012  Motion was made and carried to approve the January 19, 2012 minutes. Item 3: Citizens’ Forum  Beth Reynolds was present to observe. Item 4: Discussion regarding Adopt-a-Location Program/Litter Index  Board discussed and decided on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. for the Litter Index and Saturday April 7, 2012 9:00 a.m. for clean-up at Hunterwood Park. Item 5: Update from Coppell Green Team Subcommittee  Tabitha Wilson reported the subcommittee has met with the Chamber and revised the Green Team program by removing the point system and tiers and replacing it with a check-list system with different categories.  The new program will offer exclusive benefits and luncheons.  The Chamber will have a booth at Earthfest to distribute new pamphlets and kick-off new program.  Tabitha will email edited version of pamphlet to members for them to see. Item 6: Update from Earthfest Education Booths Subcommittee  Brandi Todd, Vin Merrill, and Richard Kelley reported that they have compiled a list of past vendors to approach for Earthfest. They plan on meeting after the board meeting to organize this list and plan on how to get the vendors to commit. Item 7: Update from KCB Booth at Earthfest Subcommittee  Three children’s craft ideas were presented to the board. 1) Paper Hat Activity 2) Caterpillar filled with grass seed 3) Re-purposing beverage containers into bird feeders and water holding vessels.  After discussion, the decision was put on hold until next meeting so the caterpillar and re-purposing beverage containers could be tested for overall simplicity and accessibility of resources. Item 8: Community Programs Report 1) Recycling Carts – January Report for Blue Carts. Percent of Home that set out carts: 67% Percent of Waste Diverted by recycling in carts: 20.56% 2) Newspapers on Residents Lawns- It is the homeowners responsibility to pick up their newspapers delivered to their homes. They can unsubscribe from free paper delivery if they do not want a paper. Code Enforcement can issue a letter of warning for newspaper buildup as trash and debris on property. 3) Abibow Paper Retrievers – 258 tons of paper recycled from Coppell yellow and green Abibow bins at schools, churches, and city. 4) Coppell Farmers Market – Winter Market dates: 2nd and 4th Saturdays in February and March. Open every Saturday starting April 7th. Farm to Table Dinner set for June 9, 2012. Watch for more events at www.coppellfarmersmarket.org 5) Coppell Community Garden (CCG) – About 60 came out for the Adopt a Plot Garden Sign up. Less than 10% will be releasing their plots to those on the waiting list. The warmer weather has allowed for a higher harvest in January donated to the Metrocrest Social Services food pantry. 6) CCG Education – The Basics of Organic Gardening Series spring classes start this Saturday. The Sustainable Urban Ecosystem workshops will also be hosted at the Coppell Community Garden on Feb. 25 and 26th. All classes posted on www.coppellcommunitygarden.org 7) Calendar for KCB – Check your notebooks for the event calendar and the roles/responsibilities for KCB Board. New Business to be placed on next meeting’s agenda  Discussion and approval of new Green Team program.  Subcommittees for Earthfest reports ADJOURNMENT  Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. by Brandi Todd.
