COPPELL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
August 21, 2012
MINUTES
The Coppell Economic Development Committee met at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2012 at Coppell
Town Center, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas 75019. The following were
present: James Walker, Christi Greene, Kenneth Luttmer, Aaron Straach, Don Carroll, Sue Bird, Scarlett Hovland
and Mindi Hurley.
Call to Order

Kenneth Luttmer called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
Review of Goals and Objectives

Mindi provided copies of a Retail and Restaurant Recruitment Strategy.
Discussion followed.
Mindi also provided copies of a Strategy and Timetable for Retail and Restaurant Recruitment.
Discussion followed.
Suggestions regarding the Retail and Restaurant Strategy were:
Mindi met with Buxton, an analysis company that would help the City to understand and then
capitalize on business growth and development, business retention opportunities, industrial
opportunities and healthcare needs.
Mindi explained that our survey questions need to be more specific, such as “What is our wish
list for Coppell?”
Mindi advised that Buxton can focus only on the retail needs for Coppell. The proposal
amounted to $60,000. Mindi advised that this was not in the budget for the current fiscal year
but could be discussed for next year’s budget.
Discussion followed.
The Economic Development Committee would have input into the survey.
The committee recommended going forth with the strategy and timetable as outlined.
Joint Meeting Discussion

The Joint Meeting with City Council and Planning and Zoning is scheduled for Sept. 5 at the
Fire Station Meeting Room.
Committee would like to include the following on the agenda for the joint meeting:
Branding
o
Comprehensive Plan
o
Incentives and Funding
o
Zoning and Ordinance Updates
o
Old Town Coppell
o
Cypress Waters Update
o
Retail Vacancies
o
The Committee are interested in feedback regarding:
Feedback from new Councilmembers regarding Economic Development
o
More discussion on restaurants and retail direction from Council
o
General discussion and update on commercial and industrial projects.

Smash Burgers / Einstein Bagels are moving along with their project.
Jersey Mikes Restaurant will go before City Council in Sept. The restaurant will be located at
143 S. Denton Tap Road.
Old Town Coppell was featured in the Dallas Business Journal.
The town homes in Old Town have been selling very well.
With no further business to discuss, it was moved by James Walker, and seconded by Don Carroll that the
meeting adjourn. By unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
