BM 2012-11-15 KCBKeep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting November 15, 2012 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on November 15, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Brandi Todd, Vin Merrill, Laura Burnett, Noel Schaefers, Richard Kelley, Shawn Thompson, Tabitha Wilson, Alternate: Carmen Prince, Student Advisors: Annie Friedman and Pooja Marella, and City Liaison: Jen Ferguson. Item 1: Call to Order • Brandi Todd called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for October 18, 2012 • Motion was made and carried to approve the October 18, 2012 minutes. Item 3: Citizens' Forum • No citizens present Item 4: Discussion regarding Adopt -a -Location: All members reported on their location's viability based on number of clean-ups and ability to contact registered leader. Those that failed to meet requirements of contract identified and potential adjustments will be made with the consideration of alternate adoptees. Item 5: Discussion regarding Coppell Green Team: Announcement of Tony Moline's resignation from the Coppell Chamber of Commerce. Discussed continuing the plans in place with approval of remaining staff. Item 6: Discussion regarding Green Santa and Christmas Parade: Green Santa will not be performed in public schools due to curriculum conflict. Board agreed to hold a book reading booth at the Dec. 1St Town Center event instead of doing a float in the parade. Item 7: Discussion regarding Review of KCB 2012 Activities: Annie Friedman and Pooja Marella re- instated as Student Advisors for next year. Discussed 2012 events and activities. Item 8: Discussion regarding president and vice president elections: Chair encouraged any interested persons to consider nomination in January. Item 9: Community Programs Report (Written) 1. Residential Recycling Carts Average to date in 2012 — September — Percent of Homes that set out carts — 72%. Percent of Waste Diverted by recycling — 20%, October — Percent of Homes - 68% , Percent of Waste Diverted by recycling — 20% bringing YTD totals to 64% for PR and 19% for DR. 2. Coppell Farmers Market — Winter Market Dates: Dec. Stn and moving to the 2"d and 4tn Saturdays in January through March 2013. 3. Coppell Community Garden (CCG) —Board to visit Metrocrest Social Services in Jan. Share the Harvest pounds to Metrocrest: 1,717 donated in Sept, YTD — 11,016 pounds. 4. Environmental Education Committee (EEC) — CISD teachers to receive CE credits for attendance. Wildflower seeding = 125 attendees. Upcoming Spring classes being scheduled. 5. Upcoming Events — KCB Board's Adopt -a -Location to meet on Saturday, November 17th at Hunterwood Park at 10: 00am. Green Santa Storybook reading at Tree Lighting event — Dec. 1St° Dec. 8th — Starting your Garden Indoors, Reminder: No KCB meeting in December. Jan. 19 — Soil Love, March 2nd — Rainwater Harvesting, Aril 13th Residential Green Cleaning, May 18th Sealing your Home for Energy Savings, June 22" — Hydroponics. 6. Staff — Board appointees: Richard Kelley, Shawn Thompson, Vin Merrill (voting) and Bret Saunders — alternate. 7. City Announcements: Green Team — city wide facility single stream recycling. KCB 2012 receives KAB President's Circle Award — recognizes exemplary performance made by certified affiliates of the national non-profit to reduce litter, minimize waste and recycle, and beautify their local communities.
