BM 2013-01-17 KCBKeep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting January 17, 2013 Mission To involve individuals and businesses throughout the community to promote education and initiatives that encourage waste reduction, litter prevention, beautification and environmental sustainability. The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on January 17, 2013 at 6:30p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center located, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Coppell, TX 75019. The following members were present: Laura Burnett, Richard Kelley, Vin Merrill, Carmen Prince, Bret Saunders, Noel Schaefers, Shawn Thompson, Brandi Todd, and Tabitha Wilson. City Liaison Jen Ferguson, Community Programs Coordinator, and Kyra Cody, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present. Item 1: Call Meeting to order • Brandi Todd called the meeting to order at 6:38 p.m. Item 2: Discussion and consider approval of 2013 KCB Chair and Vice Chair • Nominations made and motion carried through for approval of a new Chair and Vice Chair on the board of KCB. Appointed Chair: Shawn Thompson Appointed Vice Chair: Richard Kelley Item 3: Consider approval of November 15, 2012 minutes • Motion was made and carried approving the November 15, 2012 minutes. Item 4: Citizen's Forum • No citizens present. Item 5: Presentation by Christine Chute-Canul from Keep Texas Beautiful • Christine Chute -Canul, Keep Texas Beautiful Program Director, presented information regarding one, three, and five year strategic planning for Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful affiliates. Keep Coppell Beautiful board discussed priorities for 2013-15, including volunteer recruitment, creation of ongoing committees, involvement in schools through educational programs such as Recycle Bowl and Waste in Place teacher trainings, beautification projects, and working with other boards and commissions. Item 6: Community Programs Report (written) • Earthfest Committees — KCB booth will include: Laura Burnett, Tabitha Wilson, and Bret Saunders. Vendor Booth will include: Vin Merrill, Richard Kelley, and Shawn Thompson. • Soil Love — first class of 2013 to be held this Saturday January 19, 2013, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Fire Training room on Parkway Blvd. • Adopt A Location — time spent reaching out to the individual organizations for Adopt A Location was a huge success. • Keep America Beautiful Conference — January 28-31, 2013 in Washington D.C. City liaison, Jen Ferguson, will attend to accept the 2012 Keep America Beautiful Distinguished Service Citation Award on behalf of Keep Coppell Beautiful. Distinguished Service Citation Award - recognition for encouraging local government, business and private citizens to work together to make your community a more beautiful, safer place to live.
