BM 2013-02-21 KCBKeep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting February 21, 2013 Mission To involve individuals and businesses throughout the community to promote education and initiatives that encourages waste reduction, liter prevention, beautification and environmental sustainability. The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on February 21, 2013 at 7:00p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center located, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Coppell, TX 75019. The following members were present: Laura Burnett, Richard Kelley, Vin Merrill, Noel Schaefers, Shawn Thompson, Brandi Todd, Annie Friedman, and Pooja Marella. City Liaison Jen Ferguson, Community Programs Coordinator, and Kyra Cody, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present. Item 1: Call Meeting to order • Shawn Thompson called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Item 2: Consider approval of January 17, 2013 minutes • Motion was made and carried approving the January 17, 2013 minutes. Item 3: Citizen's Forum • No citizen's present. Item 4: Review Strategic Plan • Board discussed multiple topics regarding Strategic Plan: volunteer recruitment, creation of committees, and education and involvement in Coppell schools. • Shawn Thompson reported the need to further develop awareness of KCB and its mission in the community in order to involve and engage more citizens. • Board discussed the use of social media, Facebook, to promote KCB. City liaison will submit required City paperwork and create Facebook page. Board will discuss creating a subcommittee to assist in management of the page. • Shawn Thompson reported ways of gaining exposure for community awareness: Facebook, aligning KCB with the 2030 Plan, attending Chamber Events, and hosting booths at public events. Item 5: Evaluation of future programs and events 0 Board discussed planning the entire Calendar of events. • Board discussed setting up booths at all community events to promote KCB through demonstration and informative signage. • Board discussed creating a "green" speech to ask Mayor Karen Hunt to deliver at community events throughout the year. Item 6: Discussion regarding recruitment of volunteers and committees • Pooja Marella reported the possibility of creating QR codes for signage around Coppell High School to advertise the KCB volunteer recruitment. • Annie Friedman reported she will contact the director of NHS for the Coppell High School in order to spread the word of KCB needing volunteers. Item 7: Update from Earthfest Education Booths Subcommittee • Richard Kelley reported out of the total 30-35 booth spaces available at Earthfest, 16 organizations have verbally committed, and from that 16, there are 8 solid commitments to participate in 2013 Earthfest. Item 8: Update from KCB Booth at Earth Subcommittee • Board discussed possible activities to take place during Earthfest at the KCB Booth. No activity decided. • Board discussed getting information out about KCB through a sign-up sheet specifically to obtain interested citizen's email addresses. Item 9: Discussion regarding TxDoT landscape project • Board discussed the TxDoT project awarded to KCB by TxDot and KTB through the GCAA. • Board created a subcommittee to offer guidance to the TxDoT project manager in the project design. The subcommittee includes: Noel Schaefers, Laura Burnett, and Brandi Todd. Item 10: Update from Coppell Green Team Subcommitee • Shawn Thompson stated he will contact the new Chamber president, Christy Valentine, regarding future proceedings with the Green Team partnership. Item 11: Discussion regarding Adopt -A -Location Program/Liter Index • Board discussed and elected Saturday March 30th, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. to complete the annual Liter Index and Saturday March 30th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. for the quarterly AAL clean-up at Hunterwood Park.
