BM 2013-03-21 KCBKeep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting March 21, 2013 Mission To involve individuals and businesses throughout the community to promote education and initiatives that encourages waste reduction, liter prevention, beautification and environmental sustainability. The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on March 21, 2013 at 7:00p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center located, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Coppell, TX 75019. The following members were present: Richard Kelley, Noel Schaefers, Shawn Thompson, Tabitha Wilson, Carmen Prince, Bret Saunders, Annie Friedman, and Pooja Marella. City Liaison Jen Ferguson, Community Programs Coordinator, and Kyra Cody, Parks and Recreation Administrative Technician, were present. Item 1: Call Meeting to order • Shawn Thompson called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. Item 2: Consider approval of February 21, 2013 minutes • Motion was made and carried approving the February 21, 2013 minutes. 0 1st motion Noel Schaefers 0 2"d motion Richard Kelley Item 3: Citizen's Forum • No citizen's present. Item 4: Review Strategic Plan • Board discussed multiple topics regarding Strategic Plan: volunteer recruitment, creation of committees, and the education and involvement in Coppell schools. • Shawn Thompson reported the need to further develop awareness of KCB and its mission in the community in order to involve and engage more citizens. Item 5: Update from Earthfest Education Booths Subcommittee • Richard Kelley reported 26 vendors have committed to attend EcoCoppell Earthfest; still waiting to hear from a few vendors that were invited. • Board discussed that all committed vendors will be providing information to the community helpful and related to KCB and its mission. • City Liaison, Jen Ferguson, reported several special demonstration vendors will participate in EcoCoppell Earthfest: wind turbine prototype, large complete rainwater harvesting system, and an Enviroscape watershed demonstration. Item 6: Update from KCB Booth Earthfest Subcommittee • Board discussed offering a sign-up sheet at KCB Earthfest booth to gather information (name, email address, area of interest) from citizens interested in participating in volunteer opportunities offered though KCB. The sign-up sheet will also ask citizens their opinions of the program and what they would like to see in the future. • KCB booth subcommittee reported the KCB booth will again feature the caterpillar craft. Subcommittee organized logistics of steps needed to prepare craft and booth for the event in a timely manner. • Board discussed surveying participants of Earthfest in order to gain feedback from the community to better serve in the future. Surveys will be passed out by youth volunteers. • Shawn Thompson reported the the need to develop an "elevator speech" in order to maintain a consistent message amongst Board members when sharing the KCB message. Noel Schaefers will develop an elevator speech. • Board discussed the need for youth volunteers to assist Board members in the KCB Earthfest Booth. City Liaison, Jen Ferguson, will create a volunteer opportunity on x2vol.com Item7: Discussion regarding recruitment of volunteers and committees • Board discussed strong focus in KCB booth with sign-up sheet at multiple upcoming events. • Board discussed the importance of communicating with friends and neighbors about familiarizing them with KCB and its mission. Item 8: Discussion regarding Facebook page and subcommittee City Liaison, Jen Ferguson, reported she is waiting on confirmation of approval from City of Coppell Communications Officer for Facebook page. Board discussed the option between creating KCB a business v. personal page once approval is granted. Subcommittee will include City Liaison Jen Ferguson, Annie Friedman, and Richard Kelley. Item 9: Discussion regarding City of Coppell 2030 plan • Shawn Thompson stated the importance of the Coppell 2030 plan and the mission of the City to create "A Family Community for a Lifetime". Item 10: Item 11: Shawn Thompson reported the mission and goals of KCB directly align with many of the "strategies" of the plan. • Board discussed KCB developing relationships with other organizations within the city with like-minded goals. Update from Coppell Green Team Subcommittee • Shawn Thompson contacted the Chamber President, Christy Valentine, to discuss the future of the Green Team. Tabitha Wilson will continue to serve as the Green Team Subcommittee Chair and will move forward with the Chamber communication in order to re-establish program. • Board discussed providing a booth at Earthfest specifically for Christy Valentine and Chamber. Community Programs Report (written) 1) Recycling Carts – "Make Your Cart Count" Goals are 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate – compost included (DR) DEC JAN 2013 YTD 61% PR 58% PR 59% PR 25% DR 25% DR 25% DR 2) Coppell Farmers Market – This Sat is last winter market day. Resume market every weekend in April. April 13 CFM spring festival. New vendor "Good Earth" lamb, eggs, produce. Pavilion construction underway – will move when construction complete. New logo. 3) CCG Education – Rainwater Harvesting on March 2 – 72 participants. Gary Olp was speaker—excellent feedback. April 13 Residential Green Cleaning. Upcoming classes avail on coppellcommunitygarden.org 4) CCG – Share the Harvest pounds to Metrocrest: 333 lbs donated in Feb. 142 lbs donated in Jan. 475 lbs to date. 5) Upcoming Events – March 23 -April 6 Clean Coppell Over 1800 registered!
