Minutes of Meeting
April 18, 2013
Mission
To involve individuals and businesses throughout the community to promote education and
initiatives that encourages waste reduction, liter prevention, beautification and environmental
sustainability.
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on April 18, 2013 at 7:00p.m., in the Conference Room
at the Coppell Service Center located, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Coppell, TX 75019. The following
members were present: Shawn Thompson, Chair, Richard Kelley, Vice-Chair, Laura Burnett,
Vin Merrill, Bret Saunders. Student Advisors: Annie Friedman, and Pooja Marella. City Liaison
Jen Ferguson, Community Programs Coordinator, and Allana Lamberth, Parks and Recreation
Administrative Technician, were present.

Motion was made and carried approving the March 21, 2013 minutes.

Review Strategic Plan
Item 4:
Board discussed multiple topics regarding Strategic Plan: Shawn Thompson
reported about on the success of volunteer recruitment at Earthfest. More
discussion on the education and involvement in the community.
Laura Burnett suggested surveying the public on the needs of the community
in order to determine the best volunteer opportunities to offer. She will
organize the survey and submit to board for review.
Discussion regarding Earthfest and Clean Coppell wrap-up report and

evaluation.
Board discussed ways to raise attendance involve more vendors next
year.
Board discussed vendor survey results. Staff liaison, Jen Ferguson, will
post surveys for Board review.
Pooja Marella suggested supplying vendors maps of venue to assist
Earthfest participants with directions.
Board discussed creating a “How To” document to better prepare for a
sustainable event. Staff liaison, Jen Ferguson, will prepare document.
City Liaison, Jen Ferguson reported over 1,900 volunteers registered
for Clean Coppell. Clean-up/Fix-up event yielded over 10,000 lbs of
shredded documents and over 1,800 lbs. of clothing/household goods
were donated.
Discussion regarding booth opportunities (Farmer’s Market, Bounce, 4

of July, Oakfest) and upcoming events.
Board discussed participating in City events with a booth.
Board discussed success of booth participation at April 13 Coppell
Farmers Market. Booth effectively engaged and educated the community,
resulting in additional volunteer recruitment.
Laura Burnett made a motion to have a booth at the Farmers Market once
a month.

Board expressed interest in furthering their education of city recycling
opportunities. City Liaison, Jen Ferguson will contact Waste Management
to organize a tour of the recycling facility for the Board.
Discussion regarding recruitment of volunteers and committees
Item 7:
Board discussed ways to involve volunteers in KCB events. Laura Burnett
suggested surveying the public. See item 1.
Discussion regarding Facebook page and subcommittee
Item 8:
City Liaison, Jen Ferguson reported the KCB Facebook is active. A
subcommittee with Richard Kelley, Annie Friedman, Pooja Marella will
assist with setting up page.
Discussion regarding City of Coppell 2030 plan
Item 9:
Board discussed ways to align KCB programs with the Coppell 2030 plan.
Discussion regarding Adopt-a-Location and Litter Index
Item 10:
Staff liaison, Jen Ferguson, reported the 2013 Litter Index survey
completed by the Board resulted in a 1.2 litter index.

Market every weekend. Chipotle to be at market 4/27.
Offering $10 coupon to first 100 people. Farm-to-table dinner 6/8. Need volunteers.

when construction complete. New logo.
3)CCG Education –
April 13 Residential Green Cleaning. Larry Singleton spoke not only
about green cleaning, but extending the lifespan of household goods. Next class is Home
Energy Savings on May 18. Three top notch speakers. Anna Clark, Jinen Adenwala,
Alan Hoffman. Upcoming classes avail on coppellcommunitygarden.org
4)CCG –
Share the Harvest pounds to Metrocrest: 239 lbs donated in March. 714 lbs to
date. New Tech students completed details of new photo contest. $50 prize.
Applications due 5/3. Receiving many applications for scholarship. Priority given to
students to volunteer with environmental projects/community service and are seeking a
degree in the environmental field. $1000. More info on coppellcommunitygarden.org
Plant sale @ CFM and Earthfest very successful.
