Robert Smith spoke of refiling application for membership to meet deadline in September.
ITEM 3: Inform Board members of new Animal Services videos
Robert Smith informed the Board of new videos that were made to hopefully help educate the
public in a way that they are aware of what can happen with animals and what does happen.
The first video "Dog Bites Kid" received around 2200 views on the city's web site and 200-300
views on the animal services face book page. The second video is "Dog Bites" and hoping to
come out with a few more on wildlife and the animal shelter itself. Grace Adamson asked if
eventually the videos would be available to burn on a DVD.
ITEM 4: Question & discussion from the Board
Garfield Reid asked if an animal is found locked in a hot car, who has the authority to try to help
the animal if owner is not around. Robert Smith stated that the animal control officers patrol
parking lots looking for this type of thing and that they carry a temperature gun to check the
heat index if they see this situation. The police are contacted instantly as animal control does
not have the authority to break a window in a vehicle. Also discussed was the mention of the
possible outbreak of distemper in raccoons and to inform the public about how important
vaccinating your pet is in fighting these diseases. If the public sees a raccoon acting strangely
such as turning in circles, crusted eyes and mucus coming from their nose please call Animal
Services to pick up the animal.
