CANVASS OF RETURNS AND DECLARATION OF THE RESULTS OF
AN ELECTION HELD IN THE TOWN OF COPPELL ON APRIL 3, 1962
FOR THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR AND FIVE CITY ALDERMEN
BE IT REMEMBERED that on this the 10th day of April,
1962, at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Coppell, a
quorum being present, the meeting was called to order, and the
following business was transacted.
Upon motion of Alderman Harwell
and seconded by Alderman Johnson, it was
unanimously ordered that the City Council consider the official
returns of an election held in said City on the 3rd day of April,
1962, for the election of a Mayor,and five City Aldermen.
Whereupon, said official reutrns were opened, examined,
canvassed and the result declared as follows:
CANVASS OF RETURNS AND DECLARATION OF REEULTS
Whereas; heretofore, W.T. Cozby, Mayor, called an
election to be held in the Town of Coppell on April 3, 1962, for
the purpose of electing a Mayor, and five City Aldermen, to serve
for the term commencing April, 1962, and caused notice thereof to
be posted in.~the manner and for the time provided by law, which order,
together with the notice issued thereon, is recorded in Volume 1,
Page 167 , of the Minutes of the City Council and is hereby referred
to and made a part hereof; and,
Whereas, immediately after said election the presiding
judge and other officers holding said election made their returns
of a result thereof to the City Council as follows, to-wit:
Said return being duly made according to law, and duly
authenticated, and it being shown that written notices of said
election were posted for the time and in the manner provided by
law, and all other proceedings pertainint to said election having
been shown to have been done and performed at and within the time
and the manner, provided by law, and all papers pertaingin thereto
having been returned and filed with theCity Council and no protest
or objection being made to or regarding any matter pertaining to
said election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF COPPELL, TEXAS, after examining said returns and opening and
canvassing the votes at said election, that the results of said
election were as follows:
That the following number of votes was cast for the
following named candidates ,for the office of Mayor, to-wit:

That the following number of votes was cast for the
following candidates for the office of Aldermen, to-wit:

J.R. McDonald 77
C.T. Waters 75
Morgan Johnson 74
E.D. Scott 66
Erwin Beal 52
It appearing that W.T. Cozby received
the largest number of votes for the office of Mayor, nad he is here-
by declared elected to the office of Mayor of the Town of Coppell.
and to serve, after qualifying for the term commencing April, 1962.
It further appearing that John A. Burns
B.J. Harwell, L.P. Johnson
J.R. McDonald, & C.T. Waters
received the largest number of votes for the office of City Aldermen,
and they are hereby declared to be elected. to said office, and to
serve, after qualifying, for the term commencing April, 1962.
It is further ordered that this canvass and the declaration
of the results of said election be entered in the Minutes of the City
Council of the town of Coppell and that said officers, after they
have qualified and taken their oaths, shall serve during the term com-
mencing April, 1962 and thereafter until their successors are duly
elected and qualified.
That this resolution declaring the results of the election
held on April 3, 1962, shall become effective immediately after
passage.
APPROVED by the City Council of the Town of Coppell on
this the I0th day of April 1962.
