RE 2014-0519.1 (Canvass) RESOLUTION NO. 2014-0519.1 MUNICIPAL ELECTION Coppell, Texas May 10, 2014 CANVASS OF RETURNS AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS OF MUNICIPAL ELECTION th BE IT REMEMBERED THAT on this the 19 day of May, 2014, at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, a quorum, pursuant to § 67.004(a) of the T EXAS EC, being present, the meeting was called to order and the following business was LECTION ODE transacted. Upon motion it was unanimously ordered that the City Council consider the official returns of a municipal election held in the City on May 10, 2014, for the election of one Councilmember for Place 1, one Councilmember for Place 3, one Councilmember for Place 5 and one Councilmember for Place 7. WHEREUPON said official returns were opened, examined, canvassed and the results declared as follows: CANVASS OF RETURNS AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS WHEREAS , heretofore, the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, called a municipal election under the TEC to be held in the City on May 10, 2014, to EXAS LECTION ODE elect one Councilmember for Place 1, one Councilmember for Place 3, one Councilmember for Place 5 and one Councilmember for Place 7; WHEREAS , immediately after said election the Presiding Judge and other officials holding said election made their returns of the results thereof to the City Council as follows, and said returns being made according to law, and duly authenticated, and it being shown that written ___________________________________ Canvass of Returns and Declaration of Results of Election - Page 1 notice of said elections were posted for the time and in the manner provided by law, and all other proceedings pertaining to said election having been shown to have been done and performed at and within the manner provided by law, and all papers pertaining thereto having been returned and filed with the City Council and no protest or objection being made to or regarding any matter pertaining to said election. NOW, THEREFORE , be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, after examining said returns and opening and canvassing the votes of said election, that the results of said general election are as follows: That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the office of Councilmember Place 1, to wit: NAME EARLY ELECTION DAY TOTAL VOTES VOTES VOTES Cliff Long 1,053 608 1,661 It appearing that Cliff Long received a majority of all votes cast for the office of Councilmember Place 1, Cliff Long is hereby declared to be elected to serve a three-year term after qualifying. That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the office of Councilmember Place 3, to wit: NAME EARLY ELECTION DAY TOTAL VOTES VOTES VOTES Wes Mays 1,091 642 1,733 It appearing that Wes Mays received a majority of all votes cast for the office of Councilmember Place 3, Wes Mays is hereby declared to be elected to serve a three-year term after qualifying. ___________________________________ Canvass of Returns and Declaration of Results of Election - Page 2 That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the office of Councilmember Place 5, to wit: NAME EARLY ELECTION DAY TOTAL VOTES VOTES VOTES Nancy Yingling 1,130 697 1,827 Thomas Burrows 288 153 441 It appearing that Nancy Yingling received a majority of all votes cast for the office of Councilmember Place 5, Nancy Yingling is hereby declared to be elected to serve a three-year term after qualifying. That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the office of Councilmember Place 7, to wit: NAME EARLY ELECTION DAY TOTAL VOTES VOTES VOTES Mark Hill913 566 1,479 Aaron Duncan 504 312 816 It appearing that Mark Hill received a majority of all votes cast for the office of Councilmember Place 7, Mark Hill is hereby declared to be elected to serve a three-year term after qualifying. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this canvass and declaration of results of said election shall be entered in the Minutes of the City Council and that said officers, after being qualified and having taken the oath, shall serve during the term commencing May 2014 and thereafter until a successor is duly elected and qualified.
