Minutes of Meeting
January 16, 2014
Mission
To involve individuals and businesses throughout the community to promote education
and initiatives that encourages waste reduction, liter prevention, beautification and
environmental sustainability.
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on January 16, 2014 at 7:00p.m., in the
Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center located, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Coppell, TX
75019. The following members were present: Richard Kelley, Vice-Chair, Brandi Todd,
Laura Burnett, Olivia Nadler, Nancy Stanford, Brett Saunders, Vin Merrill, Student
Advisors: Pooja Marella, Aditya Addepalli. City Liaison Jen Ferguson, Community
Programs Coordinator.
Item 1: Call to Order
Richard Kelley called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.

Item 2: Discussed and consider approval of 2014 KCB Chair and Vice Chair
Motion was made and carried to appoint Richard Kelley, Chair, and Vin
Merrill, Co- Chair.
Item 3: Consider Approval of Minutes for December 18, 2013
Motion was made and carried to approve the December 18, 2013
minutes.
Item 4: Citizens’ Forum
No citizens present.
Item 5: Discussion regarding Waste Survey Update on 12/18/2014
The Board discussed the presentation of the preliminary draft report of
the Strategic Evaluation of Municipal Solid Waste Collection and
Transportation Agreement given by Perri Kittles.
The Board agreed with the approach and options presented to increase
recycling in Coppell. The Board discussed that increased recycling
participation and diversion rates could be influenced by correctly
preparing yard trimmings for recycling using the Kraft bags and open
containers, instead of plastic bags.
Staff liaison, Jen Ferguson, reported a memo from KCB was included
in the staff report supplied to Council for the January 14 Executive
Session.
Item 6: Discussion regarding Strategic Plan for Keep Coppell Beautiful.
The Board developed a 2014-2015 Strategic Plan to continue to
actualize the mission of Keep Coppell Beautiful in alignment with the
Coppell 2030.
The Board discussed categorizing programs and outreach activities
into four categories: waste reduction, litter prevention, beautification,
and environmental sustainability.
The Board will continue to develop a solid volunteer base of
community members through the use of subcommittees, with each
Board member heading a subcommittee. Each subcommittee will be
represented in Volunteer Connections, through coppelltx.gov.
The Board discussed resurrecting the Green Team, the Coppell
business recognition program, offering more community clean-up
opportunities, the TxDot landscape project, and social media. Pooja
Marella and Olivia Nadler will serve on a Social Media subcommittee.
Item 7: Discussion regarding Earthfest Vendors
Board discussed the vendor approval and application process for this
year’s event.
Richard Kelley, Vin Merrill, Brett Saunders will serve on the Earthfest
Vendor subcommittee.
Item 8: Community Programs Report
1)Recycling Carts –
“Make Your Cart Count”
Goals are 65% Participation Rate (PR) & 20% Diversion Rate –

2)Coppell Farmers Market –
2x/month market Dec, Jan, Feb, March.
Regular market to resume March 29. Working on new website to
promote CFM and new location.
3)CCG Education –
Working on hands-on classes schedule 2014 (Make
and take rain barrel, composting, soil sampling, hoop houses).
Summer programming (movie series) for students. Bus Tours. New
marketing coordinator in Parks Dept. Need successor for Chair.
4)CCG –
Share the Harvest pounds to Metrocrest: YTD > 11,500 lbs. 5
new beds to be added to garden for new gardeners. New sign at
Ground Delivery. Adopt-a-Plot sign up Feb 1. New President/ Vice-
Pres.
5)Biodiversity Education Center –
Grand opening Earth Day- April 22.
