Minutes of Meeting
March 20, 2014
Mission
To involve individuals and businesses throughout the community to promote education
and initiatives that encourages waste reduction, liter prevention, beautification and
environmental sustainability.
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on February 20, 2014 at 7:00p.m., in the
Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center located, 816 S. Coppell Rd. Coppell, TX
75019. The following members were present: Richard Kelley, Chair, Vin Merrill, Vice-
Chair, Brandi Todd, Olivia Nadler, Nancy Stanford, Andrew Denes. Student Advisors:
Pooja Marella, Aditya Addepalli. City Liaison Jen Ferguson, Community Programs
Coordinator.
Item 1: Call to Order
Richard Kelley called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes for February 20, 2014
Motion was made and carried to approve the February 20, 2014 minutes.
Item 3: Citizens’ Forum
No citizens present
Guy McClain Assistant Director of Parks observed.
Item 4: Discussion regarding New Business
Richard Kelley discussed restructured format and time commitment
expectations of monthly board meetings.
Meetings will begin promptly at 7:00pm. .
Item 5: Community Programs Report
1)Recycling Carts –

2)Coppell Farmers Market –
Regular market to resume March 22.
Move date: March 29. New website rollout first part of April. Farm-
to-Table dinner June 7. Invitation on eventbrite.com. Looking for
sponsors.
3)CCG Education –
Teen Summer Movie Series proposed. Additional
kid’s classes. Hands on Composting and Rain Barrel

4)CG –
Plant sale at Coppell Farmers Market Sat 3/22. All organic
and proceeds to benefit Coppell Community Garden.
5)Biodiversity Education Center –
Friends of Coppell Nature Park
Fundraising Dinner April 12. Clean Coppell work day April 12.
Grand opening Earth Day- April 22. Many groups, including entire
grade levels, using center from CISD schools. Linda Cook, CISD
Director of Science, conducting Project Wild (meets nat’l science
standards) curriculum teacher training.
6)Old Town Coppell –
Grand Opening celebration May 2-3. New bike
racks and recycle bins.
7)CISD –
CISD Sustainability Steering Committee - Consultant
conducted district-wide Sustainability Survey and made
recommendations. Heavily focused on recycling.

Item 6: Discussion from subcommittee on the Earthfest Vendor
Earthfest subcommittee reported 20 vendors registered to date.
New vendors include N. Texas Renewable Energy (electric car show),
Lee Elementary, Pinkerton Elementary, Longhorn Solar
Subcommittee to follow up with vendors not yet registered.
Item 7: Discussion regarding KCB Earthfest Booth subcommittee
KCB Earthfest Booth subcommittee updated Board on the caterpillar
craft.
Volunteers will hand out informational pamphlets to the parents while
the children are making the craft.
Item 8: Discussion from Green Team Subcommittee
Green Team subcommittee updated the Board with further
developments toward the redevelopment of the Green Team business
recognition program. Ex-KCB/Green Team Board members Tabitha
Wilson and Shawn Thompson contacted for background information.
Item 9: Discussion regarding City Earthfest Booth give-a-ways
Board discussed the importance of eco-friendly and eco-minded crafts
and give-a-ways at City booths.
Board discussed options for the City library booth craft. Vin Merrill

made a motion, 2 by Olivia Nadler, for the Library booth to offer an
eco-beaded keychain.
Board discussed the give-a-ways Vin Merrill made a motion, 2nd by
Olivia Nadler, for the City booths to offer earth lollipops and
carabineers.
Item 10: Discussion regarding Coppell Farmers Market Booths
Board discussed the importance KCB’s presence at the Coppell

Farmers Market. Vin Merrill made a motion, 2 by Richard Kelley,

support a KCB booth on the 4 Saturday of every month through the
market season.
Item 11: Discussion regarding Strategic Plan for Keep Coppell Beautiful
Richard Kelley provided the board with the Strategic Plan outline to
review and brainstorm more potential outreach opportunities
Board discussed the roles of each KCB subcommittee.
