BM 2014-06-05 LBWILLIAM T. COZBY PUBLIC LIBRARY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES June 5, 2014 The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, June 5, 2014 in the board room of the William T. Cozby Public Library. 1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Wednesday Foster at 7:03 p.m. Other board members present were Karla Tabor, Thomas Dwyer, Pat Nicks, Stephen Charters, Janet Koester, Adrienne Morton and Marilou Schrimshaw. Youth Advisors Nicole Crumpler and Sujal Manohar were also present. Staff in attendance were Assistant Library Director, Jane Darling and Sr. Administrative Technician, Kim McGrath. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MAY 8, 2014 REGULAR BOARD MEETING: Pat Nicks moved to approve the minutes and Janet Koester seconded the motion. All were in favor and the minutes were approved. 3. CITIZENS APPEARANCES: None. 4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: • Workload Indicators: Statistics this month were consistent with past numbers. Circulation of printed material decreased while digital usage continued to increase. Wednesday Foster asked about the increase in new patrons. Jane said that library cards have been included in the welcome packets handed out by the City to new residents and, coupled with a high turnover in population, may explain some of the increase. Adult non-fiction DVD's and audiobooks are now shelved with the adult non-fiction books. This was done in order to make room for more fiction DVD's. • Programs: Jane went over some of the activities planned for the library's 40th Anniversary Party on June 7`h and passed out programs to the Board members. She also spoke about the Summer Reading Program and the planning that is taking place to ensure it is a success. Wednesday Foster spoke about the Open House she attended on behalf of the library. 5. COUNCIL WORK SESSION: The joint work session with the Parks Board is scheduled for August 14, 2014 in the program room of the library. Agenda topics for the meeting were discussed and included Summer Reading Club, library names, 401h Anniversary celebration, Friends of the Library report and the library renovation. Reminder: there is no meeting in July. 6. LIBRARY EXPANSION UPDATE: Vicki and Jane attended the CISD School Board work session on June 3. The parking lot expansion plan was informally approved by the Board after the library agreed to move the dumpster to a different location. An inter -local agreement will be taken to the CISD Board and the City Council for approval. Vicki and Jane also met with the construction company that will oversee the library renovation and other CRDC projects. 7. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: Sujal Manohar is continuing to work on plans for Career Day and has starting confirming some participants. Nicole Crumpler has put information about the Coppell High School book exchange on Facebook and Twitter and there is also an App available that students can download. 8. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL LIBRARY REPORT: Karla Tabor gave an update of the Friends Group. Plans are for book bags to be sold at the 40t1i Anniversary Party. The book sale is planned for July 26"' from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the Friends Group will have the opportunity to purchase books before the library opens from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The consignment person may take any books leftover from the sale. So far, the Friends have 21 members. 9. LIBRARY NAME: Jane passed out a wordle and a list of name suggestions for the library. She asked for ideas and opinions from Board members. Discussion followed. 10. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The Bylaws Committee met per Pat Nicks. She said the Committee needs legal clarification regarding some of the language. Wednesday Foster gave a brief explanation of the Joint Board Meeting in August for new Library Board members. 11.
