BM 2014-08-14 LBWILLIAM T. COZBY PUBLIC LIBRARY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES August 14, 2014 The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in the board room of the William T. Cozby Public Library following the joint meeting with City Council and the Parks and Recreation Board. 1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Wednesday Foster at 7:41 p.m. Other board members present were Emily Nance, Thomas Dwyer, Pat Nicks, Stephen Charters, Adrienne Morton, Karla Tabor and Janet Koester. Youth Advisors Nicole Crumpler and Sujal Manohar were also present. Staff in attendance were Assistant Library Director, Jane Darling and Sr. Administrative Technician, Kim McGrath. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE JUNE 5, 2014 REGULAR BOARD MEETING AND THE AUGUST 7, 2014 SPECIAL BOARD MEETING: Pat Nicks moved to approve the minutes and Thomas Dwyer seconded the motion. All were in favor and the minutes were approved. 3. CITIZENS APPEARANCES: None 4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Workload Indicators: Jane Darling went over statistics for June and July. Digital services increased while overall print circulation decreased. The exception was the children's books which saw an increase in circulation. There were 426 new patrons added in June. Jane explained that library cards are included in the welcome packets handed out to new residents of Coppell which may account for the increase in patrons. The number of welcome packets are based on figures from the water department. Pat Nicks asked about the non-fiction audiobooks and Jane said they had been moved back to their original place after several complaints from patrons. Stephen Charters asked about ILL requests and requests made by patrons for the purchase of books. Jane replied that the library reviews whether or not to add a book to the collection. • Programs: Program attendance was up this summer. The Festival of Nations programs were well -attended and the children's programs were very successful. Janet Koester asked about the upcoming Coppell Reads program and when the books would be handed out. Jane responded that September 2°d is the scheduled date. 5. WORK SESSION FOLLOW UP: The Board briefly discussed the outcome of the work session with the City Council and the Parks and Recreation Department regarding the library renovation and name change. 6. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: Nicole Crumpler gave an update on the book exchange program at Coppell High School. The end -of -year book collection totaled sixty books. She has emailed the head of the English Department regarding the program for this year. Sujal Manohar discussed the career day program which is scheduled for September 20t"1 She has seven participants signed up so far. She passed around a preliminary flyer and plans to talk to school counselors and email volunteers. Jane mentioned that interviews for Youth Advisors will be on October 13t" 7. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Karla updated the Board on the progress of the Friends group. Plans are being made for another book sale. 8. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The Board reviewed goals. Pat Nicks said they hope to have the by-laws ready to present in September or October. 9.
