MEMORANDUM
TO:
Library Board
FROM:
Victoria A. Chiavetta, Director of Library Services
DATE:
September 3, 2015
SUBJECT:
Director’s Report for Library Advisory Board
We are moved! The Heartz library building is sadly empty but at the same time wonderfully
ready for a major renovation. We plan to go to Council September 8 th to present the
contract for the construction project. The Construction Manager has scheduled to begin
fencing the property very quickly and to start demo shortly thereafter. We are on our way!
The Fire Library (as we fondly call it) is almost ready to open. Tuesday, September 8, is
th
the big day so if you get a chance to stop by and visit our temporary home, please do. The
staff will be happy to see you. It’s cozy but we were able to get a lot of books into a small
space, plus have some room for computers and story times. We also managed to fit in a
few more benches than we thought we could.
Workload Indicators
The month of August was spent getting ready to move. Staff selected and marked all of
the books going into storage, sorted and packed materials for moving, labeled furniture
and generally cleaned out the building. It was like moving 24 houses worth of stuff! This
week staff set everything up including the public and staff computers, work spaces for all,
and finally, shelf reading and ensuring all of the 60,000 plus items we have are in order
and ready to go.
August statistics will be ready before next week’s meeting. Between moving and
computers being unavailable, we have not been able to pull them all together.
Programs
Story times resume on September 8 along with the Page Turners on September 14,
thth
Got Books on September 21 st and Some Assembly Required on October 5 th. The library
is also starting a collaborative venture with Roll2Play, called Book Trivia Night. The first
one was September 2 and the next one will be a Coppell Reads edition on October 7.
ndth
Staff is also in the process of looking for the next League of Extraordinary Teens group.
Applications are now being accepted.
We also hope you will join the Friends for the North Texas Giving Day Read-a-Thon,
September 17 from 12-5 p.m. If you have some time, sign up for a time slot to read My
Life in France as part of the Coppell Reads event.
