BM 2015-09-10 LB WILLIAM T. COZBY PUBLIC LIBRARY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES September 10, 2015 The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, September 10, 2015 in the Second Floor Conference Room of Town Center at 255 Parkway Boulevard. 1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Wednesday Foster at 7:05 p.m. Other board members present were Emily Nance, Pat Nicks, Janet Koester, Adrienne Morton, Thomas Dwyer and Karla Tabor. Youth Advisors Nicole Crumpler and Christine Ji were also present. Staff in attendance were Library Director, Vicki Chiavetta, Assistant Director, Jane Darling, Sr. Administrative Technician, Kim McGrath and Librarian, Jennifer Franz. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE August 3, 2015 REGULAR BOARD MEETING: Pat Nicks moved to approve the minutes and Janet Koester seconded the motion. All were in favor and the minutes were approved. 3. CITIZEN’S APPEARANCES: Ronald Bower and Ana Nino were in attendance. 4. COPPELL READS PRESENTATION: Jennifer Franz gave an overview of the Coppell Reads program and introduced this year’s book, My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex Prud’homme. The th first program is October 7. 5.LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT : Much of the month of August was spent getting ready to move. The temporary library is now open to the public and programs will start next week. Wednesday Foster asked if the same movers will be responsible for moving the library back to the renovated library and Vicki said the City has contracted with the same company.  Workload Indicators: Overall, statistics for August are down mainly due to the move with the exception of audiobooks. Staff has emphasized to patrons the availability of online resources.  Programs: Programs will start again next week beginning with Story Times. The League of Extraordinary Teens applications have been received and the selection process th completed. A Read-a-Thon is planned for North Texas Giving Day on September 17. 6. LIBRARY EXPANSION UPDATE: An agenda item regarding the library renovation contract thnd was pulled off the September 8 Council Agenda and will be added to the September 22 Agenda. The contractor should have a construction timeline ready by next week. Vicki encouraged the Board to attend nd the September 22 City Council meeting. th 7. YOUTH ADVISOR INTERVIEWS: These will be held on October 20. Janet Koester and Wednesday Foster have volunteered to help interview applicants. 8. YOUTH ADVISOR’S REPORT: Christine Ji suggested getting teen volunteers to help at the temporary library if needed. Nicole Crumpler suggested a cooking class where participants make a cake in a mug. Christine Ji said that a class could also be held in which they decorate the mug. 1 9. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL LIBRARY REPORT: Karla Tabor said the Friends Group th will be at the library on September 17 for a Read-a-Thon to coincide with North Texas Giving Day. She spoke about donations from businesses to the Friends Group and the need to have specific items in mind for those donations. 10. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The library plans to have a booth at Oakfest.
