LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
April 9, 2015
The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, April 9th,
2015 in the Board Room of the William T. Cozby Public Library.
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Wednesday Foster at 7:03
p.m. Other board members present were Emily Nance, Thomas Dwyer, Pat Nicks, Marilou Schrimshaw,
Stephen Charters, Janet Koester, Adrienne Morton and Karla Tabor. Youth Advisors Nicole Crumpler
and Christine Ji were also present. Staff in attendance were Library Director, Vicki Chiavetta, Assistant
Library Director, Jane Darling and Sr. Administrative Technician, Kim McGrath.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MARCH 19th, 2015 REGULAR BOARD
MEETING: Pat Nicks moved to approve the minutes and Janet Koester seconded the motion. All
were in favor and the minutes were approved.

4. SUMMER READING PROGRAM: Betsy Merrill spoke about this year's Summer Reading
Club. The theme is "Every Hero Has a Story". She showed several examples of items that will be handed
out to participants and gave a preview of the activities that are planned and shared information about a
promotional video.
5. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
• Workload Indicators: There was little change in the statistics from last month.
The Marketing team has prepared postcards and bookmarks to inform patrons of alternate
meeting/study spaces available for use while the library is closed for renovation.
• Programs: There were some cancellations of programs due to the weather. Festival of
Nations was rescheduled for April 111. The library will be recognized in a proclamation
as part of National Library Week at the City Council meeting on April 14`x`.
6. REPORT TO COUNCIL: Chairman Wednesday Foster will give a report to the City Council
regarding the library on April 28. She asked for suggestions and said what she planned to highlight. Pat
Nicks suggested informing people that the library will be open and continue to serve the public while the
main building is closed for renovation.
7. LIBRARY EXPANSION UPDATE: Vicki Chiavetta spoke about the moving RFPs. Plans are
for a moving company to be selected by next week. The library is working with the architects and
construction manager on the budget.
8. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: Christine Ji said that she is involved with a Storypower
group that gives books to high-risk youths and asked if the Friends could donate books (young adult and
under) for the group. She suggested moving Teen Night to a different night.
Nicole Crumpler suggested a different method to market Teen Night. She said they are working on the
opening day party for Summer Reading Club. She also discussed the candy making workshop she is
planning.
9. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL LIBRARY REPORT: Karla Tabor said the Friends Group
plans to have a table at Earthfest. They are giving coffee mugs to the library staff for National Library
Week. Stephen Charters dropped off comment cards at local schools so that students can write something
positive about what the library means to them. He also spoke at a Rotary Club meeting. Karla Tabor
asked for help to push out the Friends Group Facebook page by liking and sharing it. On April 25", the
science kits which the Friends purchased will be shown at a special presentation. They will then be
available for check-out following the program. The April 27" Friends meeting will be open to the public.
Karla asked for help with the book sale on'May 15t1i (for setup) and 16'x'. On May 27'x', the Friends Group
will hold their annual meeting which will be open to everyone. The subject of the book, The True
American, is scheduled to speak. Vicki asked for information about the speaker so that the library could
print a brochure to advertise the event.
10. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The Board continues to implement the
stated goals and objectives.
ADJOURNMENT: Chairman, Wednesday Foster adjourned the meeting at 7:48 p.m.
