LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
October 8, 2015
The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, October 8,
2015 in the Second Floor Conference Room of Town Center at 255 Parkway Boulevard.
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Wednesday Foster at 7:05
p.m. Other board members present were Emily Nance, Pat Nicks, Janet Koester, Adrienne Morton,
Thomas Dwyer, Karla Tabor and Marilou Schrimshaw. Youth Advisors Nicole Crumpler and Christine Ji
were also present. Staff in attendance were Assistant Director, Jane Darling, and Sr. Administrative
Technician, Kim McGrath.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE September 10, 2015 REGULAR BOARD
MEETING: Pat Nicks moved to approve the minutes and Karla Tabor seconded the motion. All were
in favor and the minutes were approved.
3. CITIZEN'S APPEARANCES: None
4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
• Workload Indicators: The gate count has been about half of what it normally is which
is to be expected since there are no study spaces or meeting rooms available for public
use. Jane Darling praised the staff for their hard work in getting the temporary library up
and running and the feedback from the community has been very positive.
• Programs: The Coppell Reads program is underway featuring the Julia Child book, My
Life in France. One of the related programs, La Pompe Jazz Concert, is October 10t' at
the Senior and Community Center. Story times are also back on a regular basis.
5. FIVE YEAR BUDGET PLANNING: The five-year plan requests have been submitted.
Technology items are a significant part of the plan. There are some items included for the next couple of
years which may or may not be paid for in the renovation budget.
6. LIBRARY EXPANSION UPDATE: The Byrne Construction contract was approved at the
September 22°d meeting, Demolition is under way at the 177 North Heartz Road location. Jane went over
some of the details regarding the progress so far. Site visiting is not encouraged. Library staff must watch
a safety video and wear protective gear if/when they do visit.
7. YOUTH ADVISOR'S INTERVIEWS: These will be held on October 20`h at Town Center,
255 Parkway Boulevard.
S. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: Christine Ji suggested that some clarification is needed as far
as volunteering at the Fire Library is concerned. Jane said to watch the library website, newspapers,
Facebook, Twitter, etc. for information about teen volunteer opportunities this summer. Wednesday
Foster asked about the Volunteer Fair next year. Jane said it is scheduled to be held but the location has
not yet been determined. She also discussed different locations in the City where the library might be able
to have programs. Nicole Crumpler spoke about brainstorming ideas for programs.
9. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL LIBRARY REPORT: Adrienne Morton reported that the
Read-A-Thon held in conjunction with North Texas Giving Day was very successful. A total of $1,430
was raised.
10. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Karla Tabor mentioned that members of
the Friends of the Coppell Library group were emailed a list of Coppell Reads activities and given the
opportunity to volunteer for some of them.
ADJOURNMENT: Chairman, Wednesday Foster adjourned the meeting at 7:32 p.m.
