LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
May 12, 2016
The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, May 12, 2016
in the Second Floor Conference Room of Town Center at 255 Parkway Boulevard.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Janet Koester at 7:04 p.m.
Other board members present were Emily Nance, Pat Nicks, Adrienne Renner, Tom Dwyer, Karla Tabor,
Jaimie Brill and Mahesh Guduru. Youth Advisor Tharani Muthukumar was also present. Staff in
attendance were Library Director Vicki Chiavetta, Assistant Director Jane Darling and Sr. Administrative
Technician Kim McGrath.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE APRIL 14, 2016 REGULAR BOARD
MEETING: Tom Dwyer moved to approve the minutes and Pat Nicks seconded the motion. All were in
favor and the minutes were approved.
2. CITIZENS APPEARANCES: None
3. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
• Workload Indicators: Statistics were again consistent with previous months.
• Programs: The Summer Reading Program kickoff is on June 4t''. The Adult Volunteer
Fair is on May 14t' and the Teen Volunteer Fair is on May 24. CozbyCon is scheduled
for May 21St
The RFID requests for proposals have been received and a decision will be made within the next two
weeks as to a vendor. The library would like to present the proposal to Council in June.
Vicki Chiavetta reminded Board members that the next meeting will be a joint Board meeting with the
Parks Department in August.
4. SUMMER READING PROGRAM PRESENTATION: Tracie Williams gave an overview of
the 2016 Summer Reading Program. The theme is "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read" which ties in with the
Olympics being held this year. There is new software for online registration and redeeming prizes. Tracie
showed some of the prizes and talked about the programs being offered this year.
5. STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE: There will be five workshops in June with staff and
community members. These are scheduled for June 20t'', 21St and 22". An online survey will be available
June 1St to get input.
6. LIBRARY EXPANSION UPDATE: Jane Darling gave an updated PowerPoint presentation to
Board members on the progress of the library renovation. The project is on schedule.
7. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: Tharani Muthukumar read an article she wrote for her school
newspaper to publicize the library renovation and its' temporary location.
8. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL LIBRARY REPORT: Karla Tabor said the Friends Group
had their annual meeting on May l0''. They currently have sixteen members but hope to increase that
number once the library is back in their regular building. She spoke about having one big book sale per
year rather than several as they have done in the past. The Friends Group will sponsor a STEM bus in the
fall. North Texas Giving Day is at the end of September and Karla said the Friends Group may coordinate
with other groups for donations.
9. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Karla Tabor said the Friends Group sent
out a note about volunteer opportunities. Adrienne Renner encouraged members to attend as many library
programs as possible. Karla and Jane Darling talked about the Got Books and Page Turners programs.
Karla encouraged members to participate in the Summer Reading Program.
ADJOURNMENT: Chairman, Janet Koester adjourned the meeting at 7:55 p.m.
