CANVASS OF RETURNS AND DECLARATION OF
RESULTS OF MUNICIPAL ELECTION
BE IT REMEMBERED THAT on this the 16th day of May, 2018, at a meeting of the
City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, a quorum, pursuant to § 67.004(a) of the TEXAS
ELECTION CODE, being present, the meeting was called to order and the following business was
transacted.
Upon motion it was unanimously ordered that the City Council consider the official returns
of a municipal election held in the City on May 5, 2018, for the election of one Councilmember
for Place 2, one Councilmember for Place 4, one Councilmember for Place 6 and one for Mayor.
WHEREUPON said official returns were opened, examined, canvassed and the results
declared as follows:
CANVASS OF RETURNS AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS
WHEREAS, heretofore, the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, called a municipal
election under the TEXAS ELECTION CODE to be held in the City on May 5, 2018, to elect one
Councilmember for Place 2, one Councilmember for Place 4, one Councilmember for Place 6 and
one for Mayor;
WHEREAS, immediately after said election the Presiding Judge and other officials
holding said election made their returns of the results thereof to the City Council as follows, and
said returns being made according to law, and duly authenticated, and it being shown that written
notice of said elections were posted for the time and in the manner provided by law, and all other

proceedings pertaining to said election having been shown to have been done and performed at
and within the manner provided by law, and all papers pertaining thereto having been returned and
filed with the City Council and no protest or objection being made to or regarding any matter
pertaining to said election.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas,
after examining said returns and opening and canvassing the votes of said election, that the results
of said general election are as follows:
That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the
office of Councilmember Place 2, to wit:

Brianna Hinojosa-Flores 2,275 1,099 3,374
It appearing that Brianna Hinojosa-Flores received a majority of all votes cast for the office
of Councilmember Place 2, Brianna Hinojosa-Flores is hereby declared to be elected to serve a
three-year term after qualifying.
That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the
office of Councilmember Place 4, to wit:

It appearing that Gary Roden received a majority of all votes cast for the office of
Councilmember Place 4, Gary Roden is hereby declared to be elected to serve a three-year term
after qualifying.
That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the
office of Councilmember Place 6, to wit:

It appearing that no person received a majority of all votes cast for the office of
Councilmember Place 6; therefore, a run-off is hereby declared between Biju Matthew and John
Jun, being the candidates that received the highest number of votes; and, that pursuant to the
Resolution 2018-0123.1 calling said election, provided for a run-off election to be held on June
16, 2018 in accordance with state law with the required notice and early voting dates to be posted;
that said run-off election as previously ordered will be held as provided therein based on this
canvass; and, the previously ordered run-off election be held on June 16, 2018 for Councilmember
Place 6; and, the votes thereof canvassed in accordance with state law.
That the following number of votes were cast for the following named candidate for the
office of Mayor, to wit:

It appearing that Karen Hunt received a majority of all votes cast for the office of Mayor,
Karen Hunt is hereby declared to be elected to serve a three-year term after qualifying.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this canvass and declaration of results of said election
shall be entered in the Minutes of the City Council and that said officers, after being qualified and
having taken the oath, shall serve during the term commencing May 22, 2018 and thereafter until a
successor is duly elected and qualified.
This Resolution, declaring the results of the municipal elections shall become effective
immediately after its passage.
DULY PASSED by the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, this the 10h day of
May, 2018.
