BM 2018-10-11 LBCOZBY LIBRARY AND COMMUNITY COMMONS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES October 11, 2018 The Cozby Library and Community Commons Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in the Conference Room of the library. 1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Adrienne Morton at 7:01 p.m. Other board members present were Frank Gasparro, Madeleine White, Wednesday Foster, Sherry Carr -Smith, Jan Lorrain, Pankaj Jain and Youth Advisor Tharani Muthukumar. Staff in attendance were Library Director Vicki Chiavetta, Assistant Director Dennis Quinn and Sr. Administrative Technician Kim McGrath. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 13th REGULAR BOARD MEETING: Wednesday Foster moved to approve the minutes and Jan Lorrain seconded the motion. All were in favor and the minutes were approved. 3. CITIZEN'S APPEARANCES: Mathew K. Ittoop was in attendance at the meeting. 4. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Vicki went over the final statistics report for FY 17/18. Gate count was up by 12%. Circulation increased by 5%. Most stats were up except for program attendance. This can be attributed to the Grand Opening event in November 2016 which had about 3,000 attendees and skewed the numbers for that year. Factoring out the Grand Opening revealed a 6% increase in attendance in FYI 7/18. The partnership with other libraries in eBook sharing has resulted in increased usage. Wi-Fi and internet sessions were up. Technology usage has increased overall. The Human Library event on September 15th was very successful. Frank Gasparro spoke about the panel discussion sponsored by the Cultural Committee which is scheduled for January 19th. The topic will be immigrants and their stories. SIMA Ballet Folklorico had 150 people in attendance. The library had a table at the Coppell Job Fair and spoke to about 60 people regarding services the library provides to help people with job searches. The library visited the middle schools to promote the upcoming Alex London author visit and had 350 students stop by the library table. The Storybook Walk dedication on September 27th went well. Slides and a video of the event were shown to the Board. Upcoming programs include the Indie Author Fair, Alex London Author Visit, Comanche Stories and Diwali Family Fun Night. 5. LIBRARY GUIDELINES: Vicki went over changes to the Confidentiality Guidelines, Hours and Services Guidelines and the Employee Accounts Guidelines. Madeleine White moved to approve the changes and Frank Gasparro seconded the motion. All were in favor and the changes were approved. 6. LIBRARY BOARD INTERVIEW STATUS: Youth Advisor interviews were held on October 8th and selections made from the applicants. Interviews for Library Board members will be held on October 16th in the Second Floor Conference Room at Town Center. 7. YOUTH ADVISOR'S REPORT: Tharani said that emails have been sent to local businesses to sign up speakers for TILE (Talks for Innovation, Leadership and Entrepreneurship). Plans are to have the first program at Coppell High School. No date has been set. 8. FRIENDS OF THE COPPELL LIBRARY REPORT: Frank Gasparro gave the Friends report. North Texas Giving Day was held on September 20th. The Friends received over $1,200 in donations. KwikBoost chargers have arrived and will soon be available for the public to use for recharging cellphones and laptops. Discussion ensued about selling the chargers individually and Frank said he will check with Emily Nance. Upcoming events include pumpkin painting at the Farmer's Market. Kaleidoscope is scheduled for October 201h & Allies in Community will have a booth promoting different names of organizations where citizens can volunteer. The Friends will be one of the organizations. The Alex London author visit is on October 22"d. The Friends Book Sale is November 161h -18th. Tharani suggested using the National Honor Society for volunteers. 9. LIBRARY BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: No discussion.
