BM 2000-06-08 LBWILLIAM T. COZBY PUBLIC LIBRARY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES June 8, 2000 The William T. Cozby Public Library Board of Trustees met in regular session on Thursday June 8, 2000 in the Conference room at the William T. Cozby Public Library. 1. CALL TO ORDER - The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Carol Ann Myers at 7:05. Other board members present were Jeanne Heath, Jane Darling, Derek Mosbarger and Douglas Glantz. Staff in attendance were Library Director, Kathy Edwards, Administrative Secretary, Janet Lance and Circulation and Operations Manager, Connie Moss. 2. READING AND APPROVAL OF BOARD MINUTES DATED APRIL 8, 2000 - Derek Mosbarger motioned to approve the minutes as read and Jane Darling seconded the motion. All were in favor and the minutes were approved. 3. CITIZENS APPEARANCES - None 4. LIBRARY MANAGER'S REPORT Update on 00-01 Budget: Kathy reported that the budget hearing went well in the initial review with City Staff. Budget process is continuing. We will be relocating the shelves and recarpeting the meeting rooms on July 31, August land August 2. Kathy informed the board that we may be closed 3-7 days during this time. The closure time will depend on the length of time needed for the electric and cabling projects. We are considering a concurrent in-service day. Update on staffing/vacancies: Connie Moss has joined the staff as our Circulation and Operations Manager. We are in the process of interviewing for 2 Part Time Library Clerks, 2 Library Pages, Library Technician and Technical Services Librarian. We have had a vacancy for part time librarian since March. Jeff Dunn is still out and may be back in mid July. Update on Book Sale: The Metrocrest Social Service Center was unable to take on another library book sale as they are over whelmed with the book sale they now support. Kathy spoke with Ann McNear and Mary Evelyn Cozby and the Friends of the Library would like to hold a book sale. If they are unable to hold the sale this Fall, the staff will dispose of materials according to city policy. Annual Board/Commission/Committee Appointments: The applications were passed out to the board members whose term expires October 2000. The board members are: Derek Mosbarger, Douglas Glantz, Jeanne Heath and Patricia Samms. 5. DISCUSSION REGARDING UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN IN THE LIBRARY - Kathy passed out a letter concerning unsupervised children and a calendar of events for June and July. The letter and calendar have been distributed to all the children at Town Elementary Center, and are placed in the library for patrons to pick up. 6. UPDATE ON SUMMER READING CLUB - As of June 8, 2000 there have been 1200 children signed up for SRC. The programs have been well attended with 135 to the Future Frolics Puppet Show, 100 enjoying the moonwalk and 250 visiting with the Robot on Saturday Jun 3. Debbie has introduced a new program this year, the chess and checkers program, which had 60 boys attending the first day. We have 40 teens sign up for the "Volunteen" program; each volunteers 1-3 hours per week. 7. INTRODUCTION OF CONNIE MOSS, LIBRARY CIRCULATION AND OPERATIONS MANAGER - Kathy introduced Connie Moss to the library board. She has joined the library staff as Circulation and Operations Manager. 8. OTHER BUSINESS AS MAY BE LEGALLY CONDUCTED-JULY BOARD MEETING - Jeanne Heath motioned and Derek Mosbarger seconded to cancel the library board meeting for July. The motion carried. 9. ADJOURNMENT - Douglas Glantz motioned and Derek Mosbarger seconded to adjourn at 7:35. Carried.
