Minutes of August 17, 2000
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on August 17, 2000 at 7pm in the second floor
conference room at Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas. The following
members were present; Julia Petty, Co-Chairman, Ray Foster, Diana Sircar, Pat Lambert,
Barbara Piels and Amanda Vanhoozier, City of Coppell, liaison. Members not present were:
Steve Mobley and Richard Murphy.
Item one: Call to Order - Julia Petty called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm.
Item two: Approval of Minutes from June 15, 2000 and July 20, 2000 Meetings - Diana
made a motion to approve the minutes and Pat seconded the motion. Minutes were approved.
Item three: Citizen's Forum - There were no citizens present.
Item four: Adopt-a-Location Status and Action- CHS Cheerleaders want a location and Ray
took the form. Valley Ranch Early Childhood PTA will adopt Allen Park. Coppell Rotary Club
is interested is Bethel Road from 121 to Freeport, and they will submit when they talk with the
High School group Interact's participation. Amanda will contact the CHS Ecology Club about at
location when school starts. No signs have been erected.
Item five: CLEAN CITIES 2000 Status and Review-
1 .) Distribution of science book covers to the Middle School 6th graders for the fall of 2000.
KCB recycle bookcovers were sent out a week before school opening.
Art teachers at Elem. Schools were notified about the two art projects for the KCB events.
2.) Steve was not present to update on Multifamily Housing recycling and the Executive
summery.
3 .) Automotive oil collection sites was updated by Diana. The committee will update the other
recyclables by calling local establishments. Pat and Barbara will take cleaners. Barbara will
contact grocery stores, Julia will contact mail businesses and Amanda will call Daycares and
Garden Centers. A new list will be ready by Texas Recycles Day and logo stickers will be given
to each business that participates.
Item six: Texas Recycles Day-November 11, 2000 - Committee discussed the following
activities for the event: Recyclable collection (Service Agencies, Chipper, Battery Plus, Recycle
bin, Resource Concepts), Demo Stage- Mower transformation, leaf mulching, paint disposal,
HHW alternatives, Recyclable products (Alberson's Bench), Eco-Shopping Display, Recycle Art
Display, and Compost Fair.
Item six: New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda- Keep Texas Beautiful's Lake
and River Clean-up assistance in early February. Keep America Beautiful affiliation. Master
Composter Seminar in October 12-14, 2000.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.
