Minutes of September 21, 2000
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on September 21, 2000 at 7pm in the second floor
conference room at Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas. The following
members were present; Steve Mobley, Chairman, Julia Petty, Co-Chairman, Ray Foster, Diana
Sircar, Barbara Piels and Amanda Vanhoozier, City of Coppell, liaison. Members not present
were: Pat Lambert and Richard Murphy.
Item one: Call to Order - Steve Mobley called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
Item two: Approval of Minutes from August 17, 2000 Meeting - Diana made a motion to
approve the minutes and Ray seconded the motion. Minutes were approved.
Item three: Citizen's Forum - There were no citizens present.
Item four: City Council Appointments and approval of resignation of committee
member - A motion was made and seconded to approve the resignation of Richard Murphy.
Newly appointed committee members are: Pat Lambert, Scott Braugh, Jeannie Rae Fartier, and
Thomas Guidry, Jr. The committee thanked Steve Mobley and Ray Foster for their term service.
Item five: Adopt-a-Location Status and Action- CHS Cheerleaders want to adopt a
location. The committee discussed offering them Andrew Brown Park West. Valley Ranch Early
Childhood PTA adopted Allen Park. Coppell Rotary Club adopted Bethel Road from 121 to
Freeport. Signs are being erected for new groups.
Item six: CLEAN CITIES 2000 Status and Review- Steve read over the Action Plan for
99-00 and noted some of the areas that needed to be addressed at the October meeting. Recent
actions were: 1) The committee has pooled a list of what you can recycle and where. Diana will
consolidate on a master list to be available through the website, Channel 19, C-Link and at Texas
Recycles Day. The committee approved using the logo with the trees and banner on a static cling
label to give to businesses on the list. 2) Multifamily Housing was sent a letter of recycling
options for their residents. 3.) Ray is working with Vonita White at CISD on recycling at the
schools.
Item seven: Texas Recycles Day-November 11, 2000 - Committee discussed the following
activities for the event: Recyclable collection (Service Agencies, Chipper, Battery Plus, Recycle
bin, Grocery bags with Albersons display), Demo Stage- Mower transformation, leaf mulching,
paint disposal, HHW alternatives, Eco-Shopping Display, Recycle Art Display, and Compost
Carnival. Committee members were asked to participate with the set-up and different activities
planned that day. Diana Sircar made up a mock pamphlet on Safer Alternatives to Common
Hazardous Household Products. The committee approved and she will finalize it for the TRD.
Item eight: NCTCOG FY0i Solid Waste Grant-Community Organic Recycling
Education Update - Approved by TNRCC and will go to city of Coppell Council on September
26, 2000. First event: Master Composter Seminar in October 12-14, 2000.
Item nine: Keep America Beautiful application approval - The committee approved to
begin the process of applying for Keep America Beautiful.
Item ten: New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda -There was no new
business.
