Minutes of October 19, 2000
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on Octoberl9, 2000 at 7pm in the Planning
conference room at Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas. The following
members were present; Diana Sircar, Barbara Piels, Pat Lambert, Scott Braugh, Jeannie Farrier,
and Thomas Guidry, Jr. and Amanda Vanhoozier, City of Coppell, liaison. Member not present
was: Julia Petty
Item one: Call to Order - Amanda Vanhoozier called the meeting to order.
Item two: Approval of Minutes from September 21, 2000 Meeting - Diana made a
motion to approve the minutes and Scott seconded the motion. Minutes were approved.
Item three: Citizen's Forum - There were no citizens present.
Item four: Nomination and approval of 00-01 Chair and co-chair - The committee
discussed the role of chair and co-chair. A motion to postpone appointment until the next
meeting was approved.
Item five: Adopt-a-Location Status and Action- The CHS Cheerleaders have adopted
the Andy Brown Community Park West and Girls Scout Troop # 2017 adopted Carter Crowley
Practice Fields off South Coppell Road. The committee discussed the adoption of Sonic Drive
and the south side of the CHS campus to the Nine Graders. The committee approved the
agreement and the sponsors would limit the students under 15 yr. Old to the campus area. Diana
informed the committee of needles and syringes found in litter clean-up. Amanda will send out
notice and biohazard container with groups for safety. A suggestion was made to update the
current agreement.
Item six: CLEAN CITIES 2000 Status and Review- The committee discussed the
application for Clean Texas in January 2001. A motion was made to go forth with Clean Texas
and modify or adopt any program to fit city's needs and to determine the level of participation.
The motion was approved.
Item seven: Texas Recycles Day-November 11, 2000 - Amanda presented a brief overview
of the special event. Volunteers were asked to attend a training meeting on October 30th, 7-8pm
at Town Center. Diane and Tom will help with the recycle drop-off, Barbara- Demonstration
Stage, Pat-Eco-shopping game, and Scott and Jeannie may help as needed. Diane presented the
Safe Alternatives to Household Hazardous Products and the what and where to recycle brochure.
The committee approved printing the what and where to recycle brochure professionally.
Item eight: NCTCOG FY0i Solid Waste Grant-Community Organic Recycling
Education Update - Master Composter class was held Oct. 12-14 and nine were in attendance.
They will work with the compost carnival at TRD. Signs have been ordered for the Compost
Carnival.
Item nine: Keep America Beautiful Pre-training representatives designated- The
committee designated the following members to attend a pre-training for KAB: Tom, Pat and
Barbara, and Amanda.
Item ten: New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda -Nomination and
approval of chair and co-chair. Clean Texas application.
