ORDINANCE NO.97815
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS,
AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY AMENDING CHAPTER
15, ARTICLE 15-1, SECTION 15-1-2(1) TO REQUIRE CONTRACTOR
REGISTRATION; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;
PROVIDING A REPEALING CLAUSE; PROVIDING A PENALTY OF
FINE NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS
($2,000.00) FOR EACH OFFENSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
BE IT (~RDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COPPELL,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Coppell, Texas be and the same
is hereby amended by amending Chapter 15, Article 15-1, Section 15-1-2(1) in part to read as
follows:
"Sec. 15-1-2 AMENDMENTS
1. Section 106.1 shall be amended to read as follows:
"Section 106.1 Permit Required. No building or structure regulated by this
Code shall be erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved,
improved, removed, converted or demolished unless a separate permit for
each building or structure has first been obtained from the Building Official.
All materials governed by this Code shall be installed according to
manufacturers reconunendations and specifications and installed in a neat
and workman like manner."
Every contractor who shall make contracts for or perform the installation or
repairs of buildings, structures, electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing
systems within the City for which a permit is required, shall register with the
Chief Building Official on a form provided by the City and pay an annual

registration fee established by resolution of the City Council from time to
time ."
SECTION 2. That should any word, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase or
section of this ordinance, or of the Code of Ordinances. as amended hereby, be adjudged or held to
be void or unconstitutional, the same shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of said
ordinance or the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, which shall remain in full force and
effect.
SECTION 3. That all provisions of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Coppell, Texas,
in conflict with th~ provisions of this ordinance be, and the same are hereby. repealed, and all other
provisions not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 4. An offense committed before the effective date of this ordinance is govemed
by the prior law and the provisions of the Code of Ordinances, as amended, in eft~ct when the
offense was committed and the former law is continued in effect for this purpose.
SECTION 5. That any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance or of the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor and, upon conviction in the municipal court of the City of Coppell, Texas, shall be
subject to a fine not to exceed the sum of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) for each offense; and
each and every day said violation is continued shall constitute a separate offense.
SECTION 6. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage
and the publication of the caption as the law and charter in such cases provide.
