Minutes of August 16, 2001
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on August 16, 2001 at 7pm in the Second Floor
Lobby Conference Room at Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas. The
following members were present; Diana Sircar, Chairperson, Jeannie Farrier, Co-chairperson,
Julia Petty, Thomas Guidry, Jr, Pat Lambert, and Scott Braugh and Amanda Vanhoozier, City of
Coppell, liaison. Not Present: Barbara Piels
Item one: Call to Order - Diana Sircar called the meeting to order.
Item two: Approval of Minutes from May 10, 2001- Minutes were approved.
Item three: Citizen's Forum - No citizens were present
Item four: Report and Discussion of KAB Training and Community Development
Session - The Committee discussed the goals and objectives for the sessions. They
adopted all the goals and chose one objective for each to go on the Plan of Action for 01-
02, as follows:
Educate and involve the citizens of Coppell is promote the mission of KCB
c~ Use all avenues of PA through the city information office and
the CISD Green Team
Beautify Coppell by seasonally coordinating with other City Committees
(Tree Board, Park Board, Plant Palette, Master Composters)
c~ Encourage water reduction through use of water conservation
techniques
c~2 Continue compost education
Identify, reduce, and prevent litter in Coppell
c~ Provide recognition for groups that participate in AAL
Increase recycling rate in the city
c~ Encourage business recycling through a pilot program with real
estate office and medical office.
Examine current ordinances and recommend changes
c~ Research what ordinances are in place and enforcement history
c~ Continue to educate code enforcement officers on litter and
illegal dumping.
Item five: Adopt-a-Location Status and Approval of New Groups - The committee
approved the Coppell Pediatric Associates, PA to adopt Beltline Rd. Wangler to Sanders
Loop. The City of Coppell Park Board is interested in adopting the State and Ruby Rds.,
however their agreement has not yet been received. The CISD groups will be notified to
continue their agreements for 01-02 school year.
Removal of old sign on Wrangler Rd. next to CMSW was submitted.
The committee set their pick-up date for Sept. 8th 8am to meet at Kroger and head East
on Sandy Lake Rd.
Item six Approval of Texas Wildflo~ Trails beautification project- The
committee approved the project to include lunteers Plant wildflower seed between
the boardwalk and the new Moore Rd. at ~ Roa~ ~rk~ A date will be set sometime
in October.
Item seven: Plant Palette Subcommittee ReP~ - Thomas, Julia, and Diana reported
that the Plant Palette Subcommittee has finalizea the additions. The revision will go to
Park Board, KCB and the P&Z before going tp it7 Council for approval in October.
Scott Braugh suggested a drought tolerant tr~ ~ii~d Purple Robe.
Item eight: Discussion of Options for Te~g Recy;~l~s Day- The committee discussed
having a two hour window for recycling drog ~ff at AI~ertsons, Tom Thumb or Minyards
parking lot. The drop off would include a ~ cle ml~ ff, brush trimmings, Reusables
for CCA or Metrocrest. A promotion of recyclihg at ~bside would be the highlight with
free bin giveaways and current recycle informatio~ ~h~ date set for Texas Recycles Day
will be November 10th, 10am to noon. The committee also discussed making a new
brochure for Keep Coppell Beautiful to hand ~ at ~he event. A subcommittee meeting
was called for Oct. 18th at 6:30pm to include e ¥one in this day.
