ORDINANCE NO. 97816
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS,
AMENDING CHAPTER 2 TO ADD ARTICLE 2-10 TO ESTABLISH THK
COPPELL SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITEE; PROVIDING A REPEALING
CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY TFIK CITY COUNCIL OF ~ CITY OF COPPELL,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinance of the City of Coppell, Texas be, and the same is
hereby amended by amending Chapter 2 to add Article 2-10 to establish the Coppeli Special Events
Committee to read as follows.
"ARTICLE 2-10 COPPELI, SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
"Sec. 2-10.1. Creation.
A committee to be known as the Special Events Committee is hereby created for the
purpose of planning and coordinating the City of Coppell Christmas parede, the Fourth
of July celebration and Coppell Celebrates/Pig Fest.
Sec. 2-10-2. Membership.
The committee shall be composed of eight (8) members. The City Council will appoint
four (4) members consisting of one (1) Council member, the City Manager or designee
and two (2) citizens. The Chamber of Commerce shall appoint four (4) members.
Sec. 2-10-3. Terms.
Members shall be appointed for a term of two (2) years. Provided, however, in order
to establish staggered terms of office, two (2) of the initial council appointed members
shall be appointed for one (1) year terms and two (2) of the initial chamber of
commerce appointed members shall be appointed for one (1) year terms. Thereafter all
appointments except to fall a vacancy, which shall be filled for the unexpired term, shall
be for two (2) year terms.

Sec. 2-10-~. Meetings.
The committee shall meet once a month or more oecen as necessary. A majority of the
committee shall constitute a quorum for purpose of transaction of business. All
meetings of the committee shall be open to the public, unless otherwise prohibited by
SECTION 2. That all provisions of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Coppell, Texas, in
conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be, and the same are hereby, repealed, and all other
provisions not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 3. That should any word, phrase, paragraph, section or phrase of this ordinance
or of the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, be held to be unconstitutional, illegal or invalid, the
same shall not affect the validity of this ordinance as a whole, or any part or provision thereof other
than the part so decided to be unconstitutional, illegal or invalid, and shall not affect the validity of the
Code of Ordinances as a whole.
SECTION 4. An offense committed before the effective date of this ordinance is governed by
prior law and the provisions of the Code of Ordinances, as amended, in effect when the offense was
committed and the former law is continued in effect for this purpose.
SECTION 5. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately ~om and aRer its passage, as
the law and charter in such cases provide.
