The Coppell Road project is at the stage where the contractor is ready to build retaining walls.
The retaining walls will be along the east side of the road in front of Wilson Elementary and
along the screening wall adjacent to the Devonshire subdivision. The walls bid were per a
NCTCOG detail that is a poured in place concrete retaining wall integral to the sidewalk. I am
attaching some pictures showing similar walls.
In an effort to have these walls more aesthetically pleasing I have requested that the contractor
submit a price for constructing this wall with both a pattern and color added. The contractor
submitted a brochure and color samples for our consideration. Upon consultation with Gary Sieb
a dry stack rock wall and color were selected for pricing purposes. See the attached information
on pattern number 439 and 477.
The attached contractor pricing shows the additional cost for adding a stain to the finished wall,
and for adding the pattern. The original bid quantity for retaining wall is 1,635 square feet. The
more expensive pattern (439) along with the selected color would result in a total additional cost
of $22,236. In working on the grading with the contractor, we believe we can eliminate
approximately 450 square feet of wall. If we also use the less expensive pattern (477) this would
be a total increase in $15,227.25.
I recommend we go with the patterned wall with the No. 477 pattern and the color as selected by
Gary. I am available to discuss this at your convenience.
