ST0003-CS070828 (8/18/2009) Keith Marvin - Trees at Cooper & Coppell RoadPage 1 From: John Elias To:Keith Marvin Date: 8/28/2007 7:43 AM Subject: Trees at Cooper & Coppell Road Keith, The evergreen trees in question at the corner of cooper & coppell road are ARBORVITAE. This type of evergreen is not a quality plant material, and generally it is not recommended for planting. The reason it should not be planted is because it grows very fast and very big (25' ht. and 15' spread), and it has many insect problems. The arborvitae in question are covered with bag worms, which will kill them eventually. It typically is not available at most nursery's, although it can probably be found at Home Depot or Wal Mart. The reason nursery's don't carry it is because it grows so fast it out grows the containers in a very short time, plus it's not recommended for planting. I think the arborvitae in question won't have a problem with the side walk construction planned in the area. The replacement value would be under $100 each. I would recommend replacing them with 10' - 12' Eastern Red Cedar, or 45 gallon Leyland Cypress at a cost of about $250 each. Thank You John Elias Park Operations Manager
