If the fence is a typical 6' fence any of the oaks or elms would work, assuming there's no sidewalk. If there's a sidewalk I wouldn't plant anything. If the fence or wall is 8', I would recommend an ornamental tree such as crape myrtle or Yaupon Holly tree.
