St Joseph-CS090122(9/2112009) DiWanna Baskins - Speak at St. Joseph's Retirement Community From: DiWanna Baskins To: Eric Debus Date: 1/22/200911:15 AM Subject: Speak at St. Joseph's Retirement Community Hello Sgt. Eric, Will you be available to speak (along with myself) with the St. Joseph's Retirement residents at one of their weekly Wednesday programs? Either March 4th or February 18th? The time is 10:30 am for either day. History: This stems from a complaint from the daughter-in-law of one of the residents saying that it is unsafe for the drivers wanting to go east on Sandy Lake. She mentioned the curve of the road, hard for drivers to see, reaction time, etc with age makes it worse. She wants a traffic light at the front gate entrance, which is off of Sandy Lake. This is not feasible, so I sent her an exhibit showing the east gate exit that is off of Starleaf. Go south on Starleaf and turn right on MacArthur Boulevard, which is 35 mph. (It also may good to take Starleaf north and turn on MacArthur, I'll check the sight distance) I contacted St. Joseph's center and spoke with a rep named Sally. She said that they have already been telling the residents to use the east gate, etc. She said they go out during peak times and some of them shouldn't be driving because they can't see, etc. Also, some of the people (from out- of state and in-state) are driving with licenses that haven't been renewed or that probably wouldn't be renewed due to poor sight, etc. St. Joseph's offers transportation to the residents, also. Speaking Engagement: She wants me to come and speak about traffic issues pertaining to that and peak hours(best times to run errands), using the east gate and so forth. I told her I would see if I can get a representative from the PD to speak on safety and whatever else you think is important. I don't know if I was going to go as far as putting together a powerpoint or such. I am more concerned about the people that don't have up-to-date licenses. I don't know if or what can be done about that... If this doesn't fit in with your schedule, I totally understand! ! ! Page Thanks as usual! DiWanna
