Clay -
Hope your New Year has started off well.
You will remember that when we meet on December 30th, we mentioned to you the large volume of
clear, clean water running through the drainage easement between Asbury Manor and The Mansions. As
discussed this has been going on since early to mid-November. You had said you were going to look
into this.
Well, after it continued unabated, and John Pouwells mentioned to me that he didn't see any runoff on
the west side of Coppell Road (from the Callejo property), I decided to investigate today (Nice day for
it!). What I found, was surprising, and, to me, disconcerting.
Please refer to the photographs that I have attached. It would appear that this is something that has been
set into motion by the city. Certainly the use of a control valve to what appears to be a city water line
would, to me, indicate that this is the city's doing. I know that from time to time, water lines, fire
hydrants, etc., need to be flushed out, but the length of time of this event seems grossly excessive. If the
opening of this valve is constant (from the flow pace we have witnessed, I would think that it is), then
you are running 55 gallons of water per minute through that valve. If the valve has been open for 60
days, at 55 gallons per minute, this action has dumped 4,752,000 gallons of city water (?) down this
drainage structure into the ponds behind The Mansions. I don't suppose to know why this might be done,
but using my home's November water usage as an example, that is enough water for approximately 125
homes for the two month duration of this event. I also calculated the cost of this water should a
homeowner have caused this action and it would have cost them about $15,400 over this two month
period. That is about $257 worth of water a day running down there, Clay, so I am wondering if that is
actua y a necessary action?
Just concerned. I think we all hate waste, so I wanted to be sure that somebody had not forgotten. Please
keep us posted.
Thanks.
