Mr. Atkins,
It looks like Schematic is approved by our division with a minor comment (width of shared used trail path). I was told to
get a design waiver approved at this stage of PS &E is painful, therefore I am recommending that if it is acceptable by the
City of Coppell, you go ahead and provide a 10 ft wide shared used path and be over.
For your view I am attaching a copy of our division approval into that effect.
As requested in following e-mail from Bruce Nolley, please forward me a PDF copy and three additional hard copies of the
schematic for distribution.
If you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to e-mail or call
me at the number below.

Ali,
Attached is the approval memo for the Sandy Lake Road schematic. Please note their comment regarding the trail portion
of the project.
If you during the PS &E phase you can revise the width of the trail to 10' you do not have to resubmit the Form 1002 with a
"Design Waiver ". If you decide to keep the 8' wide trail we will need to resubmit the Form 1002 (pg 3) requesting a
"Design Waiver." The sooner you all make a decision on this matter the better.
I will need a PDF copy and three additional hard copies of the schematic for distribution here at the District.
If you have any questions please contact me.

DATE: April 16, 2009
Revised Schematic Layout
County: Dallas
Control: 0918 -45 -773
Highway: CS
Project: HP 2007 (193)
Limits: From Sandy Lake Road from N. Coppell Rd to S. Coppell Rd
We received the revised schematic and your response to DES review comments via
memorandum dated April 3, 2009. The responses are adequate and the schematic is approved
for further project development on condition that the following is addressed in the final PS &E:
Comment #9: Since the 8 ft trail is for the shared use of pedestrians, cyclists and other
non - motorized use; it should meet all the design criteria for shared use paths outlined in the
AASHTO Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities. The minimum paved width for a
two- directional shared -use path is 10ft. The 8 ft reduced width is only allowed under certain
conditions outlined there. Widths less than 10 ft must be documented on Form 1002 as a
design waiver (Roadway Design Manual, Chapter 1, Section 2). Please either provide 10 ft
wide shared used path or re- submit Form 1002 showing waiver for the shared -used path width.
Furthermore, towards the east end, you added the MBGF and the single guardrail terminal.
Please ensure that we are maintaining the clear 8 ft width.
There is no need to resubmit this schematic. Please ensure and appropriately address these
issues in the final PS &E.
