RE: Sandy Lake Trail Issues
I will check again with TxDOT on the sidewalk angle. We will look into
the impacts of the wider trail. I am pretty sure there are no ROW
impacts, but maybe some to walls. I will let you know.

Before we make that decision, can you tell me if adding 2 feet to the
trail has any implications on height of retaining walls, width of
bridge, amount of ROW necessary, etc... How much money are we talking
about for this extra width?
Can we simply label the 8' trail as sidewalk? This AASHTO Bike Trail
Design seems excessive...

Keith,
Ali just called me back regarding the trail and indicated that he told
me wrong about removing the trail. Since the schematic has been
approved, we have to go with either a 10' trail or a design waiver. I
assume you will want to go with a 10' trail and not go through the
waiver "painful" waiver process. Please let me know and we will get it
submitted.

Also, regarding Sandy Lake, did you decide to go with our proposal for
ROW services? If so, when would you like us to start?

John,
The section of Sandy Lake road between Coppell North and Coppell South currently shows an 8 foot trail adjacent to the
road. TxDOT has commented that the trail should be 10 feet wide. Do you have any thoughts on trail width through here?

Good Morning Keith,
Sorry about not following up on this with you already, but I was trying
to get an answer out of TxDOT regarding trail options. I just talked to
Ali this morning and got some clarification. Basically, we have a
couple of options. We either show the trail as 10' wide or we show the
trail as future. This would alleviate the need for any design waivers
with the trail and the process that is associated with those. Either
way we can make the change and have the revisions submitted within a
couple of days. Please let me know which way you would like to go with
the trail. Thanks and have a great day!

Mr. Atkins,
It looks like Schematic is approved by our division with a minor comment
(width of shared used trail path). I was told to get a design waiver
approved at this stage of PS&E is painful, therefore I am recommending
that if it is acceptable by the City of Coppell, you go ahead and
provide a 10 ft wide shared used path and be over.
For your view I am attaching a copy of our division approval into that
effect.
As requested in following e-mail from Bruce Nolley, please forward me a
PDF copy and three additional hard copies of the schematic for
distribution.
If you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to e-mail or call
me at the number below.

Ali,
Attached is the approval memo for the Sandy Lake Road schematic. Please
note their comment regarding the trail portion of the project.
If you during the PS&E phase you can revise the width of the trail to
10' you do not have to resubmit the Form 1002 with a "Design Waiver".
If you decide to keep the 8' wide trail we will need to resubmit the
Form 1002 (pg 3) requesting a "Design Waiver." The sooner you all make
a decision on this matter the better.
I will need a PDF copy and three additional hard copies of the schematic
for distribution here at the District.
If you have any questions please contact me.
