Thanks Matt. It appears we will be going with the 10' trail.

Keith,
I talked to TxDOT regarding calling the trail a sidewalk and they said
that would not work. Basically, we are stuck with these options. We
proceed with the final submittal to TxDOT, that they have requested,
telling them we will either modify the trail width to 10' in the design
plans or request a waiver. If we change anything at all on the
schematic at this point, it will require re-approval of the schematic
and set us back a few months. To request the waiver, it will require
several submittals, including exhibits & sections, along with all the
approvals.
The impacts of widening the trail to 10' are minimal. There will be no
impacts to the ROW nor to the bridge. The height of the retaining wall
may need to be adjusted, but I think we were pretty conservative on that
at this point. At most, it would increase in height no more than 1'.
The additional cost of the trail and wall height would be less than
$20K.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed and we will get the
ball rolling. Thanks and have a great day!

Before we make that decision, can you tell me if adding 2 feet to the
trail has any implications on height of retaining walls, width of
bridge, amount of ROW necessary, etc... How much money are we talking
(1/6/2010) Ken Griffin - RE: Sandy Lake Trail IssuesPage 2
about for this extra width?
Can we simply label the 8' trail as sidewalk? This AASHTO Bike Trail
Design seems excessive...

Keith,
Ali just called me back regarding the trail and indicated that he told
me wrong about removing the trail. Since the schematic has been
approved, we have to go with either a 10' trail or a design waiver. I
assume you will want to go with a 10' trail and not go through the
waiver "painful" waiver process. Please let me know and we will get it
submitted.
Also, regarding Sandy Lake, did you decide to go with our proposal for
ROW services? If so, when would you like us to start?
